When I worked there was always a rivalry between pipefitters and plumbers. I was a pipefitter...K.A.N.

When someone has more work than they can handle, asking for excessive compensation is a way to keep the job flow manageable.
Whew! Thanks. For a moment there I thought maybe they were only price-gouging shit$.
SO nice to know there is some “reason” for acting in such a manner. <Sarcasm>

Funny you should mention that. I've been thinking about replacing my electrical panel. It's sixty years old, and it uses push-button breakers that are no longer available. I connected a separate/connected panel for the generator, so I have some experience. Still, there's a lot of electricity in there. It would be nice if I could shut off the power to the panel. I'm sure the power company could do that for me, but there would be a hefty charge, and they wouldn't like me doing it myself.
To shut off power to the panel, clip the security tag, unbolt the retaining ring, and Remove your meter.
That will disconnect all power from the panel. Tape over the meter box — (would not want to touch those power contacts!)
Or call your E-service and have them come pull the meter.
Do all your deinstallation / reinstallation / rewiring.
Check EVERYTHING at least four to five times! Better yet, pay to have a certified electrician inspect & sign-off on the job — this for INSURANCE REASONS. (Maybe leave one breaker out so they can charge for something).
Or find a certified electrician who does “side-jobs”.
Call the E-company to come out and reinstall the meter.

I learned how to fix plumbing and electrical from my father. May he Rest In Peace. When something breaks or just doesn’t work right my wife fills out a work order and includes what time the job is to be completed and the payment for service rendered. Just kidding!
I’ll fix items around the house when necessary. I rarely call a plumber or electrician simply because I would not wish to pay that kind of money.
Exactly!!
My difference is .... no Wifey!!
But seriously, a glass of water at a nice restaurant is poured for you, w/o even asking, ice included....no charge right?? BUT, suppose you were crawling across the Gobi Desert!?!? That glass might be a Hundred Bucks, right????
I think .... the difference has to do with ..... Barrel (as in Over it!!)
OR, it's Not what something "costs," it's the FEE !!
Respectfully,

I know that with HVAC, pricing used to be that prices could change within a city based on the area. Those who lived in upper middle class and aboved paid more for the same unit installed than in another area. It was easy to do because they could increase the cost of installation.
