Yep the Samsung is the only/best choice!! Much faster, more stable than others and small. Even the price is reasonable.

I generally feel Samsung is a good brand, but I had a Samsung T7 external SSD fail on me. I’ve been using Crucial X8 for the last six months. So far so good.

Have a couple scan disk 2tb and they have worked well for me. Have had one for about 2 years and one for about 1 year. Price was right. They fit nicely in a small carry case.

Samsung T9 - 2x the speed of the T7 (which is less expensive)

I recently bought a Oyen Digital 8TB U32 Shadow from B&H and have been quite pleased with it.

They come in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB.

Sorry to hear about your Samsung T7 external SSD failing. Hopefully, you didn't lose any important pics? I hadn't heard of Crucial till now so looked it up. Looks like it is part of Micron Tech? So a big tech firm too, like Samsung. Looks like the read and write speeds are comparable to the Samsung T9 but the Crucial is cheaper? Though not sure about sustained write speeds? Or even whether my computer (a MacBook Pro) can get the extra speed of these SSDs.

Now I am confused! I recently spoke with a young computer science student about back up drives. His opinion was that hard drives were better because they were cheaper, lasted longer and the data could usually be recovered, although expensive. SSD'd he said, do not last as long and when they fail the data is not recoverable. I would like to hear comments from those of you who have had ACUTAL EXPERIENCE with both. Thank you
