I am considering buying a new Windows powered laptop and find that they still offer them with Windows 10 installed rather than Windows 11. I have also heard rumors that Windows 11 is not that great and wonder which way I should go on this purchase. Frankly, I'm still using Windows 7 on my current laptop, but it never sees the internet anymore and hasn't for quite some time and think it's time for an overall upgrade. So, what's the scoop on Windows 10 verses Windows 11? Any insightful information and/or feedback on this subject would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same qualms about Win 11. I installed it early in its life cycle and quickly went back to Win 10. However, I recently purchased a new laptop with Win 11 installed and am quite surprised with its improvements over the past year++, so much so that I've finally upgraded my desktop to Win 11. Other than not being able to have my taskbar on the right side of the screen and Win 11's terrible start screen I'm relatively happy with Win 11. But I should mention I purchased START11 to get back my familiar Win 10 start screen.

Performance under Win 11 is very similar to that with Win 10. If anything, Win 11 is slightly better?

On that note I must say that many of us old guys have a lot of stuff that doesn't work anymore like it used to!!

When I bought my new computer from a local dealer that I have bought all my computers from over the years Windows 11 had just come out. I asked him about it and at that time he couldn't recommend it as he was trying it and had several concerns so I stayed with Windows 10. My youngest son who works with computers for a living tells me to stay away from Windows 11. I don't know squat about computers except how to screw them up but I listen to my kid on these even though I don't have a clue why he doesn't like Windows 11. I haven't had to take my computer back to Comp-U-Tec for any repairs or updates so I don't know if they made up their minds about Windows 11. I'm sure there are people who love 11 but when my money is on the line I get very careful.

Knowledgable computer professionals are rightly cautious during the initial period of a new OS or release, but that time is past. Windows 11 is a solid release.

I've learned that if I'm not moving forward, I'm falling behind. Keeping my Operating System up to date helps avoid problems of using new software on outdated Operating Systems. Those darn five-inch single-sided single-density 64K floppy disks just don't want to read and write with those new-fangled computers.

Media that dies from attrition is a bit different than software that keeps changing.
Software improvements didn't kill the floppies, attrition did.

And my full height 5MB, at one time $4,000, hard drive is a little slow

Ignorant secretaries occasionally attached 5.25" floppies to file cabinets with refrigerator magnets… we had one for about a month.

Any of them put a label on the floppy and put the floppy in the typewriter to type the label?

I still have some 5.25" floppies both with data and blank. No drive though. Last time I had a computer with a 5.25" floppy drive was 2011. I exchanged that tower computer for 2 HP WinXP laptops. The company that I worked for needed a computer with ISA slot to run their foil stamping machine.

No, but I'm sure someone somewhere did!

In 1993 I trained some customers in NY to use our order entry software. They were office clerks in school portrait photographer territories and they were new to computers. One of them thought the mouse was a foot pedal. She stepped on it until it broke...

We had a Temp secretary in our office bay for a while.
She, very efficiently, would staple the 5¼" floppies to the master document.
Her reasoning was that she did not want them to get, accidentally, separated.

Loved that lady!!
