Which arboretum? Is this Boyce-Thompson? We were just there a couple of weeks ago.

Mostly yellow is right. Many years ago I went up the mountain to near Greer in the Sunrise ski area and all I found were Aspen, and even then not what you would call vast stands, rather just smaller clumps. There is some (not much) scrub oak around us that gets almost red, but other than those, anything that has any color has been planted there.

Yes, it was at BTA. It's true that we have mostly aspen. However, I've found oak along (of all places) Oak Creek. They weren't planted. I've seen sycamore turn orange and even deep orange back in some canyons along a creek bed. I agree with you, though, that we're mostly yellow!

It is frequently said by those who move to Arizona that they miss the fall colours. Granted, we have mostly yellow. But if one will just search, one can find wonderful fall colour.

I took these at the Arboretum yesterday. The Great Tree is just starting to turn, so I'll need to make another trip - or several - to catch it in full glory.

These are Chinese Pistache trees.

Just need to know where to look... nice captures!

Really nice, Kathy. It's the same here in Louisiana. We have some color but you have to look for it.

If you know where to look, you can find a valley in many other states. But none can hold a candle to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Likewise, you can find trees with spectacular color in the southwest; but for spectacular forests, it's hard to beat New England. The White Mountains in New Hampshire are the most spectacular that I've seen.

Beautifully done, Kathy. The blue sky is a wonderful backdrop for the fall Pistache tree.

Thanks. And your statements are so true. However, in a state that doesn't grow a lot of trees that colour, finding one that does is wonderful!
