Jack, I am an artist and have taught so many people to paint and there's one thing you can be sure of with ANY kind of art. Every time you do a new project, you improve...and that's for the rest of your life. Don't slow down. Keep on as long as you enjoy it. We enjoy it, but even if we didn't, it only has to please you!

Whether you post a photo taken by you or an IA composite. Everyone has an opinion. Many feel it is necessary to let the Hog community know how they feel. Some are outraged others not so much. I have been watching you submissions for some time now. I may not always agree with what you post. But it is usually very creative.
Of course you don’t need my blessing to keep posting. But keep posting. 😀

I have no artistic skills at all. I can't compete with Linda, Dave, R.G. or the others with that ability. My college Art History instructor, after giving him my word never to take another art course, gave me a "C" out of sympathy. Physically I can't get out in the field shooting birds and bugs like I used to. And then along comes...

Artificial Intelligence is opening whole new vistas for me. I can make pictures of ancient Greece and watch Plato talking to his students, visit the holy lands during the crusades, prowl the back alleys of 18th century London looking for Jack the Ripper. I visit mythical lands and "take pictures" of their inhabitants. Have you ever photographed a ghost or a dragon? I extend my perception to the limits of the universe and beyond.

In Photoshop, Topaz, NIK and many other Post Processing applications, I can combine images to make anything I can possibly imagine. They are sometimes not "artistically" correct, sometimes shadows go in the wrong direction, lighting is not correct, or my characters seem to float above the ground. But I am getting technically better all the time.

Good for you.
Have fun.
Just don't lie about the art and pass it off as a photo of something that never was.
But I fully support being creative in all mediums of art.

Please re-read my post. At no time did I refer to AI images as "photographs". I called them either "pictures" or "images". I think most people would agree that it's highly unlikely to have a "photograph" of a dragon or ghost

Yes ; but those images are making there way into “photography competitions” and bending reality! Art who’s to say it’s is not art, it can be made into a works of “art”. Looking at paintings, an artist sitting in front of a blank canvas is creating an image from their minds eye. Remember Bob Ross “let’s put a happy tree right here. Where I have an issue with AI is when the creator calls the image photography.

The silly bickering on UHH never ends. Some posts read like separating fly crap from ground pepper. After all, it's all only OPINIONS.

Most photographers using PS or other platforms are also in many ways using the techniques of AI to enhance our work. We still call them our photos. You on the other hand call yours, images or pictures. You are being honest about what you are presenting. There are always going to be naysayers. Keep up your great work.

I don' get all the angst. Why redefine photography? That's just silly and wrong. Many, many new things have come along that didn't fit well with our accepted vocabulary. So we came up with new ways to define them. Why can't we do that with AI images combined with photoediting?

Another case of pole-vaulting over mouse turds?

Just persnickety literalists...... finely splitting hairs.
Change something one iota and it MUST go into a different sub-category.
Forget the global category above it......

So glad to hear that you've found a creative outlet to exercise your developing artistic interests. It doesn't matter if your using an electronic sensor, brushes, chizel or words to express your creativity. The goal is to have fun, enjoy the process and share with family and friends. Keep it up and I enjoy seeing your work.

And yes, I've seen your 'ghost dog'! I'm still looking for mine.
