I have no artistic skills at all. I can't compete with Linda, Dave, R.G. or the others with that ability. My college Art History instructor, after giving him my word never to take another art course, gave me a "C" out of sympathy. Physically I can't get out in the field shooting birds and bugs like I used to. And then along comes...

Artificial Intelligence is opening whole new vistas for me. I can make pictures of ancient Greece and watch Plato talking to his students, visit the holy lands during the crusades, prowl the back alleys of 18th century London looking for Jack the Ripper. I visit mythical lands and "take pictures" of their inhabitants. Have you ever photographed a ghost or a dragon? I extend my perception to the limits of the universe and beyond.

In Photoshop, Topaz, NIK and many other Post Processing applications, I can combine images to make anything I can possibly imagine. They are sometimes not "artistically" correct, sometimes shadows go in the wrong direction, lighting is not correct, or my characters seem to float above the ground. But I am getting technically better all the time.

Good on you !

I keep hearing that AI is on the verge of a quantum leap, which likely will clean up all those annoying flaws. Enjoy !

That's all very well and good. But you shouldn't call it "photography," as that's simply not true.

Photography = the process or art of producing images of objects on sensitized surfaces by the chemical action of light or of other forms of radiant energy, as x-rays, gamma rays, or cosmic rays. (Source: dictionary.com).

From the Greek. The meaning of ‘photo’ translates to ‘light’ while ‘graphy’ translates to ‘drawing.’ Therefore, the word photography can quite literally translate to light drawing or drawing with light. Simply put, photography is the process of capturing light to create an image. This is executed through the use of a camera, either film or digital. (Source: StudioBinder.com).

It may be art. It may be imagery, but it isn't photography.

Doesnt matter worth a ratzazz what YOU call it. Equally inconsequential what most Hawgsters call it. Quote the Greeks til youre blue in the face. Doesnt matter at all.

AI is just another form of photography.

Please re-read my post. At no time did I refer to AI images as "photographs". I called them either "pictures" or "images". I think most people would agree that it's highly unlikely to have a "photograph" of a dragon or ghost

But you did post it in the General Photography section. There is a section for AI.

Only if you define photography differently than it has always been defined.

Jack, I am an artist and have taught so many people to paint and there's one thing you can be sure of with ANY kind of art. Every time you do a new project, you improve...and that's for the rest of your life. Don't slow down. Keep on as long as you enjoy it. We enjoy it, but even if we didn't, it only has to please you!
