ISO can be changed on the fly with the same wheel for shutter speed and aperture. Just assign the Fn button for that. It does mean using the menu for the other options, but there is usually less need to change the other settings than having quick access to ISO.

When cameras are shared by a large number of folks, reconfiguration and reassignment of controls is not a workable solution.

If you want to make enemies, say something true about Nikon.

The main reason I didn't go to the D3xxx line when my D40 broke was that it didn't have an articulating screen and the D5100 did. The D3300 and up have a non-antialiasing 24mp sensor, which makes them capable of very sharp, finely detailed photos, especially when paired with some top Nikon glass. Weighing only a pound, the later D3xxx line would still be a great choice for those interested in saving weight for hiking & landscapes.

The D3xxx series are more difficult to use than the higher end models but they are quite good. It's a price one has to pay for saving money.

No kidding! You could even say they work most of the time and someone would reply "Not true with a dead battery."

In what sorts of environments are individual camera bodies shared by large numbers of people?

Some cameras can save current settings to an SD card, so they can be copied to another camera body, or installed again after a reset.

The reset button in most menus returns a body to factory defaults.

When our school cameras are used by students, they are not allowed to reassign buttons or otherwise reconfigure the cameras. If one of them knew how to do it and then put it ack, we would, of course, never know.

From an educator’s viewpoint, wouldn’t it be more productive to allow them to reconfigure the camera to suit their shooting style then do a factory reset before turning in the camera at the end of the school session?

I disagree with most of your opinions.

He feels that you can't
compose a nice image, set the speed and aperture, etc. For that, you must have a much more expensive camera. Then, at last, you will able to take good photos

They use the cameras day by day or class by class. We check out Chromeboojs for the year, but not cameras.

There is nothing deep down inside us that can't be fixed by a more expensive camera.

The Rebel line, at least the 'i' versions, have more technology than the ##D 'advanced' tier models as recently as the 70D model. Alas, Nikon's D3### versions have stayed very entry-level.

And yet, Rockwell says, "The D3400 is for people who want great pictures. More expensive cameras are for people who want fancier cameras." He probably said the same for the D3300 and the D3500 ....

And he was probably right!

That is a distortion of what I believe and of what I say.

I believe that you need a camera that can be quickly and easily adjusted without distracting from the visual elements of composing and exposing a photograph. Every film camera I owned supported that quite well. They were all low to modestly priced models. The cameras we are talking about here do not. The tragedy is that they very easily could be built to do so without costing more or being more difficult to operate.

I am impressed by all who have figured out how to get good results from these cameras. The truth remains that all the extra work and struggle is completely unnecessary.
