Is there a problem with Nikon D3000 series?

I like to check local sale sites, Craigslist, FB Market place, etc. Most, at least 90% of the Nikons are D3200 with a few D3000, D3300 and D3400. Prices range from $139-$350. Is there a reason so many people want to dump the D3000 series? Found a D40 and a D70 at around a $100, no single or triple digit series.

D3000 first released in 2009, only the D3500 is still on Nikon's site. 5000 and 7000 series are current.

They're entry-level models. If memory serves, the D3300 and D3400 models featured 'modern' 24MP DX sensor. Rockwell claimed these models have all the technology the general public would ever need in a DSLR. But, there's a glut of these DSLRs across both Nikon and Canon and they cannot hold their value when resold used. But otherwise, they're perfectly 'good', just discontinued.

We had several 3xxx series Nikon cameras at the school where I work. They are capable of quite nice images, and they work quite well as a point and shoot camera when used in "green dot AUTO mode." There are multiple serious shortcomings in their user interface designs, however, and they fall down very quickly when called on to do more serious controlled photography. Their size and weight are attractive, but not much else. We still have a few, but the newer cameras are all Canon models.

No problem with them.
Just relatively old.
People either have moved on to more capable cameras or more likely have moved on to cell phones.
Also they don't work with AF lenses with the screw drive and won't Meter with the manual focus lenses.

I love my D3100. I had tried a D90 but the weigh was a concern.
My budget dosen't accomodate the latest state-of-the-Art, So I will keep my eyes out for another in the 3000 series.

I have a D3200 which has been all over Europe with me. I don't use auto mode, I prefer aperture priority. The camera has never let me down. It has a 24 MP sensor that provides excellent images. I would not hesitate in recommending this camera. I think that your review of the D3XXX series is off course.

Can't help it. Based on my experiences and those of my students. These cameras are very problematic when working to get kids away from their phone cameras. I leave more experienced photographers to make their own decisions, as my signature clearly indicates. But I've lost too many potential new photographers because of these cameras to be an advocate for them.

I had a D3300 and loved it. The sensor on that camera is very good and the colors the camera rendered were fabulous. I ended up selling it because I "graduated" to cameras with more features but I think the cameras in Nikon's 3000 series make great starter cameras for someone looking to move up from cell phones

And they don't have a built in sensor cleaner like the more advanced models.

I started my photography journey with a D3300. I sold it to my brother long ago and he still uses it and loves it. It served me quite nicely and is still serving him quite well. He loves it.

The 3000 series is a starter camera. After learning the basics, most people tend to want more bells and whistles, such as more mega pixels, tilt and articulating screens, better sensors & processors, bigger buffers, higher fps, better focusing systems. The D3200 was my first DSLR and served me well and I still have it, along with my D7500 and D500. I've had zero problems with it.

The 3200 also has 24MP, and you are correct about the poor resale value, that's why I haven’t gotten rid of mine. I'll probably give it to my Grandson when he gets a little older.

And he probably won't want it, but you never know. A local store wanted to give me $400 for my Nikon D810. I gave it to my grown son in-law. The store said they have stacks of them in the back.
