And he probably won't want it, but you never know. A local store wanted to give me $400 for my Nikon D810. I gave it to my grown son in-law. The store said they have stacks of them in the back.

A sad fact the UHH community refused to accept. It's a NEZINI 4K or a phone, no DSLRosaurs.

I like to check local sale sites, Craigslist, FB Market place, etc. Most, at least 90% of the Nikons are D3200 with a few D3000, D3300 and D3400. Prices range from $139-$350. Is there a reason so many people want to dump the D3000 series? Found a D40 and a D70 at around a $100, no single or triple digit series.

The main reason there are so many available used is the amount of time they have been available. Over a long period of time the original users either either traded up, or they decided all they need is a cell phone. I don't know a number, but I bet a whole bunch of these were sold.

Can't help it. Based on my experiences and those of my students. These cameras are very problematic when working to get kids away from their phone cameras. I leave more experienced photographers to make their own decisions, as my signature clearly indicates. But I've lost too many potential new photographers because of these cameras to be an advocate for them.

You have an obsessive dislike of these cameras and my guess is that you passed it on to your students.

If you don't have a D850, you'd better have a D500. You ain't nothing otherwise.

Could be. But I think not. The art teachers all have Canon personal cameras. They also think that the D3xxx models are awkward and have tried several times to upgrade to less "entrified" models. But now that Nikon doesn't make any entry-level cameras, the school district has shifted to Canon for all new purchases and retired all Nikon cameras. Now I need to learn more about Canon products, but I'm really glad those cameras are gone.

The Rebel line, at least the 'i' versions, have more technology than the ##D 'advanced' tier models as recently as the 70D model. Alas, Nikon's D3### versions have stayed very entry-level.

And yet, Rockwell says, "The D3400 is for people who want great pictures. More expensive cameras are for people who want fancier cameras." He probably said the same for the D3300 and the D3500 ....

My D3100 DOES have the Sensor Cleaning Feature and I use it.

Those are my main dSLRs. And for film, the FE, F3, F4 & F5.

The D3400 and 3500 omit the sensor cleaner. I assumed that earlier models in the line did not have one.

Both of those cameras provide almost the same operator interface as the D500 and D850. I still have a D300s which I love to shoot. I also still have my first "real" digital camera, a D200. It doesn't get as much use, primarily because of its very limited low light capability.

In order to succeed, we must believe the best equipment matters most.

They are entry cameras and I figure many users set it to AUTO when they used them. Eventually the owners wanted to update and they went with something better or more convenient for their photographic style.

I like that my oldest pre-Ai lenses work with the D3xxx, D5xxx, and the D7500. The "however" above may refer, in part, to the terribly dim readout in the OVF when used in bright light. As stated earlier, the low price of used D3000 models is most likely due to their age and supply vs demand, as with most anything.
