Groundhog, also known as woodchuck, is the animal. Ground hog is sausage while wood chuck is a game of catch with logs.

We grew up poor, twelve kids to feed. There wasn't always meat on the table. Boiled potatoes were a staple. But between me and my two older brothers, we usually could bring something to the table. And we weren't too particular as to what it was. I became a very good shot with my used Remington model 600 .222. Cheap ammunition! That pose in photo number one was perfect!! Short barrel or not, it was/is a tack sharp shooter! A head shot with solid .22cal bullets left very little ruined meat!! And we all benefitted from the protein! Those were the days!!

I hear you and was close to that in helping my mom put meat on the table as well. I have shot many in the number 1 photo pose but much preferred the hands up surrender position.

I never owned a Model 600 but did own a Model 788 carbine in 223 that was very accurate as well. I traded a Marlin 336 in 3030 for it to a friend of mine who not much later went to prison as a bank robber. Google, Fat Man bank robber in Pueblo, CO. He was an interesting man who decided to rob banks in the area. He was my hunting partner for a while until he was arrested. Yes he was a fat man. I bought rifles for each of his two sons and one daughter through my FFL at the time.

Yes they definitely were interesting times but also very good times, some of the best times of my life growing in the 50's and 60's. I would have hated to miss them as the kids these days are doing.
