Taking things a little too far I suppose.

Haven't been on for quite some time. Just working hard and thinking about retirement. Well, I decided to do the retirement bit. October 1st was my last official day. So... as a retirement gift to myself, I bought a brand new Rail King Imperial 4-8-8-4 Union Pacific Big Boy #4014. I earned it. It arrived on October 2nd. Yay.

However, My wife and daughters decided to give me a gift which arrived on October 1st also. It is a barely 4 month old German Shepard puppy. Swell. It would have been nice if I could have rested a few months before such an undertaking. Oh, well.

Oh... Being a hardcore model railroader, what do you think I named him? But Lionel of course! I'm an idiot.

Well........
When you find yourself in the doghouse, you'll have some company!

Thank you, Pat! The only thing is, I wanted to see what it was to sleep in, but with Lionel, that is not happening.

Really nice model of one of the most impressive engines in history! I have the Lionel version and it is one of my favorites as well. Model railroading is a great hobby and will keep you young.

Funny story.... Several years ago my wife and I wanted to take my 8 year old nephew to Steamtown, the train museum in Scranton, Pa. He didn't want to go at all. He said he didn't want to go to a stuffy museum, and he was quiet and mopey all the way up.

The first thing we saw when we went through the gate was the Big Boy. Talk about impressive! It is longer than my house, and it's not a small house. My nephew was immediately hooked. He was thrilled looking at all of the trains, and when it was time to go, he didn't want to leave. He still talks about it to this day.

Trains, both the models and the real thing, seem to have a magical effect on people.

Funny how that works. Took the grandsons to see the 4014 both times when it came through town. Took lots of pictures. They haven't said much, but I know they enjoyed it each time. I do have about 5 Big Boys and a couple of Challengers in H.O.. I need to check. Take care.

Congratulations on adding a four-legged Big Boy to your others. I wish you an easy road ahead in your retirement and please give Lionel a scratch behind his ears from me. He looks like a great boy.

Thanks, Jill! Yeah, I did order the locomotive about a week before my retirement, but the dog was another thing. I was hoping to see what it was like to sleep in and not have to do anything during the day (just for awhile). This has not happened yet. I need to take him out during the night and early hours while my wife gets to sleep. Hmmm...
