Complain all you want about how gas prices have gone.

It will become a moot issue when:
a. Electric vehicles evolve to having their own solar panels.
b. More work is done either at home or near home
c. Public transportation usage increases
d. Jay Leno dies and all his vehicles are auctioned off to museums.

We'll eventually have to use foreign oil exclusively.

They will just raise taxes and fees on Electric. Vehicles to compensate for loss of taxes on gas vehicles

Exactly right. It's moving in that direction now. Taxes and per mile charges.

I hope you're not under the impression that you're intelligent. There is not enough solar real estate on a car to power it or even charge it over night. Manufacturing jobs are the future of our economic survival. They can't be done from home and often, because of regulations, can't be done near home either.

Public transportation only works well in urban areas, they are successful there and many city dwellers already are car less. I can currently take a bus to work. I live six miles away from my manufacturing job. It takes an hour and 20 minutes and two changes and I still have to walk the last mile.

Jay Leno only drives one of his cars at a time. His garage is a museum.

Manufacturing jobs account for 11% of America’s GDP. And has been around that this century.

Interesting take here

I'm sure an electric car can be charged at home by solar. What I don't know is how long it would take.

I suspect the evolution of solar panels and batteries will solve that problem.

On the cell end, how much it is theoretically possible to increase the power per square foot would depend on the efficiency of current cells. !00% would be the limit, and that will never be possible. Technology does change, and very quickly, but it will never be possible to get more out than you put in.

EVs will take over when the Grid is able to support them, you live just down the street from me and are aware that Edison has asked us to not use large home appliances in the evening hours, why, because EVs typically are charged at home after a day of use, putting extra load on a grid not designed to provide the energy required to support the nations commerce and transportation needs.

It seems to many assume todays technology will not improve in future.

I'm positive it will, but we will never have perpetual motion. The most energy you will ever get is what you put into it minus the loss. We may be able to get loss to a very small number but it will never be zero. And the efficiencies of the drive will never be 100%. I don't know current efficiencies, so I don't know how far we can go before physics puts the brakes on.

Energy in v energy out can never be 100% because of one factor. FRICTION.

People adapt.

In Athens, you mostly see Hybrids, scooters, tiny cars and public transportation. The streets are very narrow and are packed.
