Here are four of my many Cowrie Seashells that I just photographed Friday, September 8. Sorry if I had posted an image of the same species or even same shell in the past anywhere on the UHH but those were taken with a different camera & lens and shooting technique. All four images here taken with my Pentax K-1 mark II (36MP) Camera and smc-Pentax-D FA 50mm F2.8 Macro Lens; ISO 400, f/16, Shutter Speeds Varied from 2 to 4 Seconds. I shot these vertically using a Gitzo tripod, vintage Gitzo Legs and current Gitzo Ball Head with vintage side-arm. All Manual Exposure and Manual Focus, metering off a grey card. Lighting was not as even as I would have liked. As you may tell I played with these a little in Photoshop. Let me know what you think. Enjoy.

Yes, of course. There are some odd reflections and hot spots since the shells are shiny smooth. I have heard of people making forgeries of rare shells by chemically altering the surfaces but that is unethical. My reference to Ps was only about cleaning up the background, framing, and typical processing. Thanks for looking.

Really nicely done!
I'm a SCUBA diver and have quite a shell collection. I have gone so far as removing my air tank and regulator at depth, taken a deep breath, and going/ reaching into small concavities to grab an interesting shell.
Some folks have said I'm crazy, but it's not a big deal, if done thoughtfully and carefully!
And I've never denied being a little crazy!

I was curios. I thought maybe they were hand painted or air brushed.
Some Heat resistant diffusion paper over your lights might help with the reflection/hot spots

Interesting. Just be careful about picking up any live Cone shells, some species have deadly venom!

Yep! I know all about Cone Shells! They are very common in tropical waters, especially Guam and the Philippines. They were very well covered in indoc when I first went to the Philippines. Not a whisper when I first went to Guam! There are some beautiful Cone shells, but I never found any except in the sand. They don't compare in beauty, to your beautiful Cowries!
