So help me understand, UHH hosts soooo many posts about IQ of glass. A lot of those posts make it sound like you can't take good photos unless you have the best glass available, except when it's heavy, then the IQ of a lighter, less capable lens is the best lens and we can't take good photos unless we have lighter, smaller form factor gear. I just don't get it.

No hey problemo. Its Tradition. You dont "get" Tradition. Tradition simple *is*. Now can you "get it" ????

The Nikon Z-mount 70-180mm f2.8 is internally the well-respected, superb, proven and popular Tamron 70-180mm f2.8 lens that has been available in Sony E-mount since 2020.

The lens delivers, and at less weight, size and cost of competitors. Its a winner.

Cheers and best to you all.

I trust that is the fact but if it's so I won't get the 70-180mm f/2.8 because it's not made by Nikon.

Nikon has put its name and reputation on two Z lenses thus far, the f/2.8 28-75 and the f/2.8 70-180. These lenses are essentially by Tamron. My experience is in certain lenses, the Tamron is superior to Nikon. In today’s global economy, we consumers have neither the knowledge as to where the manufacturing of products is done nor which organization does the work. In the case of a Nikon lens, it seems that there are several countries in which Nikon lenses are produced. Is one more reliable than the other? Are theses plants owned by Nikon? Do these plants produce lenses under other names, like a private labeller?

That is your choice. Nikon is partnering with Tamron on a few new Z-mount lenses such as the Nikon Z-mount 17-28mm f2.8 lens, and Nikon Z-mount 28-75mm f2.8. Nikon is making the lens but using the Tamron designs.

Get used to it, there are other Nikon-badged Z-mount lenses coming as well as Tamron-badged Z-mount lenses. they are of excellent Image quality. It is your loss if you refuse to use any of them if you could.

One thing we Sony E-mount users learned. There are over 200 superb E-mount lenses from Sony and third-party lens makers like Sigma, Tamron, Samyang/Rokinon, Viltrox, Tokina, Zeiss, and others. I use the best gear I can afford for my professional work and I have excellent lenses from Sony, Sigma and Tamron in my kit for my Sony A1, A7RIV, A7SIII, photographing all subjects around the world.

I wont be a Sony-only snob.

Cheers and best to you.

I meant UHH Sacred Traditions acoarst !
No versions of "G-d" named nor needed.

Youve been here a while. How can you never notice them ? They rule the realm. They turn a simple question and simple solution into 15 pages of misinformation by bozos and a few long form essays by UHH stuffed shirt gurus.

Theres the "right way", the "wrong way", and theres the "UHH Traditional Way".
