Because they are unique and have captured what people don't see routinely.
I'm just an amateur, but have won a number of competitions because I use that as a priority for selection.
I also ask family and friends to select. They enjoy the input. And if they pick the one that wins, they feel like they have won also!

First of all - in any competition/contest, you cannot place your name on front of entry - backside only.
My choice of entries for best chance of winning awards require suggested crops for improved presentation.
L6 - plus sharpening & contrast. L14 - the same.
M3 & M6 should be sure winners, with a vertical format chosen for M3 to reduce heavy left side. M6 is O.K.

Thanks for your great feedback. The images I actually submit will not have the "Cytography" logo, but they will have my actual signature (the rules in this case do allow, but I plan to call and verify this)

I appreciate ALL feedback and it has helped me narrow things down. I don't have to turn in the images until August 18-19 and the Fair isn't until September. I wish I didn't have to narrow it down to just four.

As mentioned, the 4 selected pics - with 3 revised, plus deletion of personal ID on front of prints, for better presentation, are the best chance of an acceptance. What county do you live in?

I appreciate your opinions. I live in Santa Fe county - county fair is upcoming but doubt I'll have time to enter anything there, at least not this year, due to travel.

There are some lovely shots.

P10, B2 or B4 (with the little cloud removed)

UPDATE: I can’t believe it, but they had the award ceremony today and one of my images, (L6 in my initial post) won first place in the Adult Amateur-Scenic category. First time ever entering a contest and can’t believe I actually won!
