hmmm, if half the crew were young and some have to keep mum about it, then about 3% of those who joined the military
Amazing! And you still look sharp enough to serve on one today; thank you for your service!
I was a sonar tech in the USCG '69-'73. I was looking for you!

7%?
There is a YouTube channel dedicated to RC submarines. How exciting can it be to operate a boat you can't see?

I salute you! I spent my time in the Navy chasing Russian submarines!
My brother's final tour was on a frigate, USS Paul (FF1080). They not only chased subs all over the Atlantic, but they also searched Iraqi freighters during the first Gulf War. He'd been in the Navy 24 years and was a Navy Counselor. On the frigate, he was a designated boarding party leader, and was always scared of meeting a bad guy in a dimly-lit passageway.
He was a functioning alcoholic, but after the Gulf war he wigged out, and ended up getting a medical retirement. As long as he could function near the 4.0 level, bosses didn't really care how much he drank.

As long as I can operate the TV remote, I drink all I want.
One of my brothers served on the last diesel subs out of Pearl Harbor in the Late 70's early 80's before they turned it into a training sub for a couple of years and then retired it in GA. It was the USS Barbel SS580.

Thanks for your service.
I was 20 years Air Force. 3 years in a joint service assignment and had some guys there who had been on fast attack subs… and a couple destined to do it again. Also, in 1969, my wife and I were on the way to Germany and most of the plane’s passengers were sailors to be replacement crew on a boomer… with several of the young guys due to get out of Navy but had their Navy time INVOLUNTARILY extended for that… not happy. They got off in Spain.
Thanks for your service. i worked on 4 subs from 1966-68 at General Dynamics Quincy Mass.

BZ shipmates - Thank you both for your service -
I spent a couple of weeks on a fast attack in the Med evaluating some experimental equip - quite an eye opener for me as my primary job was acoustics in the ASW community (P3’s - S3’s) but while in R&D we worked with all units and equipment… AWC Retired
Thanks for your service. Many teenagers today are more interested in which restroom to use.
