I'm not sure how old you are, Jim, but I remember when we lost a couple of subs, like the Scorpion and Thresher. Today, I would think today's subs are designed are produced a bit better. Not sure what serious events you went through, but I can imagine they were a bit more serious than having the lights go out.

I can't say I was a submariner, but I was a corpsman in the Navy and spent time with a Marine unit (did not get sent to Viet Nam) and my last couple years with the "Gator Navy" transporting troops. Not exactly frightening, but it would tighten a pucker string if landing troops onto a beach for battle.
