1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Station Wagon
This is a great capture. You'll almost always see a 55 or 56 Chevy at a car show or sometimes you'll see them on the highway. Rarely do you see a station wagon anywhere. Although station wagons were plentiful when I/we were growing up in the 50s, you rarely see them restored or even on the streets. If my poor memory is correct the Bel-Air was the top of the line back in the day. Thanks for sharing this image...I enjoyed seeing this car.
My Dad had one of this! Learned to drive on it. This gorgeous wagon has V8, first year with V8 for Chevy. Tires seem too fat and car seems to sit low. May be non standard wheels.
Loved its AM Signal seeking radio, an electromechanical sweep tuner. Any one remembers it?
Indeed Bel Air was top trim. Side stripe was chrome not red.
55-58s to my taste among most beatiful American cars

Something not often seen, mismatched wheels. Usually only Nomads displayed, so something different.
The first car I ever held title to was a '55 Chevy. It was a 4 door Bel Air sedan and honestly it was a bit of a slug on performance, with a 2-barrel carb and auto transmission. May mother gave it me in 1957 when my dad gave her a new car...which he did every 2 years. That '57 was a horse of a different color....2 door Bel Air hardtop with the " Power Pack " option and stick shift. When she got her '59 car, she gave me the '57. Then I was off to college and the era of free cars was over for me.
Is that '55 referred to as a " Nomad " like the the '56 and '57 versions are? I've never seen a '55 version at any car show I've been to.

Very nice photos of a great car. The '55 is the best looking of the 3 years.

The Nomads were 2 door models with nicer trim.

No. The "Nomads" were two-door wagons (like the one below).

Now THAT is a SUV, an original version! At least you could carry something in the cargo area. But I don’t get the mis-matched wheels - a new rend in classic cars?

SW fan here. It is sad SW have almost dissapeared, replaced by SUVs
Prefer station wagons longer wheelbase, more carrying capacity, lower center of gravity much better handling
Current one Mercedes E450 wagon, previous one Mercedes E350 wagon was even better but T boned and totaled by a guy that did not stop at the stop sign
Truly do not see my sense in SUVs find wagons more attractive, must be my age
