Memories....

I too owned a Mamiya Sekor 1000DTL back in the day. Had it failed twice... finally made a mold out of aluminum foil and poured in a quart of liquid resin plastic. It was my paperweight for years until someone removed it from my shelf. Been with Nikon ever since... 50 years later and still Nikon... looks like I and Nikon will go down with the ship when the time comes. Lastest Nikons owned 3-D500s and 2- D850s..... waiting for the new Z8... almost purchased a Z9...... GAS.

Some years ago I took my Praktina IIA in to a repairman and asked about cleaning and lubricating. He refused to touch it. He said sure as hell something would break. You'll probably run into that if you take it to a repairman. I had a Yashica C twl and it got something wrong with it. I stupidly took it apart and never got it back together. Place your camera somewhere you can display it. It will make a great conversation piece.

Sentimental value is sentimental value. If I care enough for a camera that has that sentimental value to me, fixing it would be a given, regardless of if the fixing cost more than the camera; which is not the point at all.

As a matter of fact I've done just that to my very first camera ever, a beautiful very competent Chinon CE-4s which was frozen. I couldn't engage the shutter release. I got it fixed for twice the value of the camera, but hey I'm still using it. My baby. I'll never get rid of it. And I just bought a Nikon FM3a which far, far superior camera, but still I'm keeping and using my First camera ever.

OP does not say where he's located but if in South Florida Camera Clinic in Fort Lauderdale would be a good place to call. 954-491-6888.

Replacement cost should not be discussed in the context of Sentimental values. Pay the freight at KEH and ignore the Philistines. If my first camera, a Fuji ST-605 , were to quit, My grand children would be at risk.

Does anyone have a lead where I can have a Mamiya Sekor 1000DTL cleaned and repaired?
The shutter does not actuate, the meter does work, and it seriously needs a deep cleaning.
This was my first camera from 1968.

Give a call to Authorized Camera Repair, outside Philadelphia, in Willow Grove, Pa.. They have fixed even older gear. They may be able to help you.

Cheers and best to you.

When you said the shutter does not actuate you meant the shutter is cocked but you can't release the shutter at all. Does the mirror go up?

Good likelihood the problem is just gummy lubricant. Maybe no parts required. Don't try to force it...there are sime very delicate parts in the clockwork of the shutter timing mechanism.

Advance Camera repair in OR is the only (ex KEF) that can repair this vintage film camera.
Hopefully I'll have my camera back working as new.
