As a matter of fact I've done just that to my very first camera ever, a beautiful very competent Chinon CE-4s which was frozen. I couldn't engage the shutter release. I got it fixed for twice the value of the camera, but hey I'm still using it. My baby. I'll never get rid of it. And I just bought a Nikon FM3a which far, far superior camera, but still I'm keeping and using my First camera ever.

Replacement cost should not be discussed in the context of Sentimental values. Pay the freight at KEH and ignore the Philistines. If my first camera, a Fuji ST-605 , were to quit, My grand children would be at risk.
