Saw a segment on the news that the older digital cameras are making a comeback. People liking the "look" of the images better (old school I guess). They also were saying that they like the fact that they put their smart phone away and that the digital camera has a single purpose. There was a camera store saying they were buying older cameras at a rate of about 100/week and selling just as many. Time to go to garage sales and see what develops.
They also said film cameras were making somewhat of a comeback. Our local camera store, Paul's Photo, just had a drive to gather old film cameras for local schools and students. I took one in and got a nice penny for it.
Walkman's are next.
I recall my oldies and theyve rightly landed in the trash heap, not due to failure but due to being rather crude badly outdated tools. No regret. My utmost shining moment was when pitching a Foveon into the dumpster.

I am getting the new R series gear from Canon. But I am keeping my 6D (first Canon dslr I owned), 5DIV (images are spectacular), 7DII (I still like it for birds etc. and it will be a backup to my R7). The 80D and 90D will be sold. I am keeping most of my EF mount lenses also. I have two adapters for them. Canon's refurbished department just shipped my RP Z(arrives the 28th) that I ordered because it is small, light, only $900. It is what I plan to use to photograph our Daughter's graduation from Medical School at the University of Virginia May 21st.
The RP, RF 100-400 with 1.4x, RF 24-105L f/4, Samyang 14mm f/2.8, RF 50 f/1.8, a small flash with 40 ft range, batteries, cards etc. along with my Sony R10iv+accessories for my wife to use is what goes on the trip.

My 16mp Fuji X-E2 is one of my favorite cameras.
I think it has something to do with the sensor used on older camera . A CCD sensor makes better shots , colors are more vivid . On occasion i still use a older pentax 6 mp dslr , and i notice at how better the shots look out of camera before processing .Apparently , a ccd sensor can use up to 100 time more power .

What defines a nice penny? I need to thin my herd of collected film cameras and would like to get a nice penny for them - they have all been repaired as needed and CLA’d.

Congratulations Robert, what a marvelous reward and event for you to go and photograph...tell your daughter congratulations and give her a big hug from your Uglyhedgehog friends. Post photos!!
It sounds like that would be for people who prefer second best. Couldn't they just use the wrong settings on a good camera to take sub-standard pictures?
Perhaps it's not a CCD vs CMOS thing? Maybe it has more to do with photo site pixel size (in microns) before the megapixel wars shrunk photo site size. I am constantly amazed at the quality of photos taken with my first 12MP DSLR with 5.2 Micron photo sites. It's also why camera companies have put the brakes on at 20MP for their top of the line FF cameras for professional photographers. Canon, Nikon and Sony all make a camera like that.

Ive heard praise of CCDs from time to time, so I borrowed one to compare. Theres just no there there. Theyre just the same old clunkers that I discarded.

Sony never gave up on the 12MP CMOS a7Sxxx series. I still use them for their ultra high ISO.

I will, maybe, at 77, there is no guarantee I will be herew or able, but I sure hope so.
When she was little, stuffed animals took a distant second to cats and kittens. She carried them, slept with them, dressed them in doll cloths etc. etc. So, I called her "Kitten". I told her that right after the ceremony, I would address her as "Dr Kitten" in front of everyone.
I have ordered a Black with Gold trim, one hand operable "click" style ball point pen, engraved - "Dr Kitten + her name".
It's the internet...every opinion can be found.
