It never went away. But now it is ok to be more open about it AND the advent of smart phone cameras have brought it out into the open for more to see.

Racism never went away. It's always simmering. I've lived all over the country. And it's the South that is the festering armpit, but it's actually everywhere.
The woke movement has shown: you are woke, ignorant, or racist. Choose.

You give Trump way too much attribution for fomenting racism. More than a racist he is a narcissistic panderer who’s motivation for not calling anyone out (even if he should have) is his fear of stepping on a segment of his voting block, no matter how insignificant their numbers are. The people or groups who are truly racist were racist before Trump and will be racists long after Trump. Do you truly believe he, who like Biden doesn’t have an original thought or idea, has caused anyone to become overtly racist merely because they support his policies?

You appear to be smarter than the average Yahoo replying, so after reading the whole statement taken in context, who do you think those "some people" might be referring to?

Trump never fomented racism but he did make it more acceptable in society

You mean the elderly Asians getting their heads kicked in or being pushed on subway tracks by black gangsters or the 5 bad law enforcement incidents that receive national attention (out of 55 million contacts a year) to further the myth of police targeting young black men.

Traitors. Terrorists. Murderers. Rapists. Others appropriately deserving.

I didn't say foment. I said " ... accidentally tapped into ... ". He soon learned what worked with his people and he rode the 'birther crowd' to the White House.
" ... John McCain was famously asked about Obama, his opponent then, being an "Arab"; the Arizona senator took the microphone away from the questioner and shot back. "I have to tell you. Sen. Obama is a decent person and a person you don't have to be scared of as president of the United States." ... "

It took Trump three press conferences, with faint condemnation, to sort of get it right without pissing off too many rank and file knuckle draggers.
Trump cynically exploited the white grievance crowd along with the carefree "poorly educated" that he loved so much.

She called the deplorables, deplorable ... way too candid. Maybe 'basket of MAGAs' would have been more PC?
