Take a Telephoto because the turkeys, snowshoe rabbits, and deer are easy to spot from the back roads. We have places in Wakefield and family in Iron Mountain and Channing. I used to work in Marquette and Houghton area are great in the winter months.

I visited the UP in October 2022. I am 82 yo, with some mobility issues.
I limited my camera to a VERY small Canon s110 with 24-120 zoom range. I found it sufficient.
Several tips:
1. I don't know what will be accessible when you are there. Check first.
2. Mackinaw Island is deserted during the winter. No visitors allowed.
3. Sable falls is worth visiting. Unfortunately, it is about 180 steps down, and 180 steps up. I had some real leg problems climbing back up.
4. Picture Rocks is another "must-see". If possible, take a later cruise to avoid morning sun glare issues.
5. Northern Lights may be visible if the weather co-operates (no clouds). Unfortunately, there is no way to predict the time. My bed time is 10:00 PM, so I missed them.

Enjoy your trip.
