I will be traveling through the UP next week for about 10 days. Is there any reason to bring a long telephoto (200mm+)? I shoot micro four-thirds.
No not really. When I go to the UP, (30 miles) north of me I would have the 24-120 mounted on my 850 and I would also bring the 70-200 but don't see the need for my 300 or the 500 lens. Just extra baggage.

The U P is full of waterfalls! Whether or not 200mm's is enough coverage depends upon how you frame your shots. The "Picture Rocks" on Superior's southern shore is an open target for more length. The Tahquamenon Falls are scattered along the river of its name for many miles. Munising MI. is a good starting point for seeing the middle portion of the U P. During summer season tours emminate from this town to various parts of the area. West of there is open between Minneapolis and Munising. At this time of year, if you have access to a snowmobile bring it! There was a 500 mile race last weekend, but the snow it still there. The U P is the playground of the entire state. We are north of Traverse City and many friends from here go to the U P for fun, and to get away from Fudgies. All week long friends from here talk about going to the "Y U P" for the weekend. The drive is easy and you get to see a really big bridge along the way. Hope you enjoy your trip.

Depends. Landscapes-no. Wildlife-yes! Still a great deal of snow on the ground this time of year. I remember seeing some amazing sights along the many snowmobile trails on the Keweenaw.
I thought everyone in the world knows that. Unless they just plain ignorant.
My bias must be showing. Having lived in Michigan (a troll under the bridge) and now going back about every year, I thought UP was universally understood to stand for the Upper Peninsula.
