I took this shot on a very foggy morning over the weekend. Since catching leaf reflections on the mist covered water was out of the question I had to shift gears and try something different. I considered removing the lifeguard chair, but that's a little more invasive than I prefer. I'd love to get some feedback on this one as I am just not sure how I feel about it.
i think i'd be tempted to remove the lifeguard tower, but it's not a huge distraction. i'd like to see the whole of the tree on the right, though.
I REALLY like this photo. Photos, to me, are all stories, and the lifeguard chair is part of this story. if you were trying for Fine Art, you could always "process" it out....
For me, I like the story the way it developed (no pun intended)
I vote to remove the chair to see what it looks like.....You can always go back to the original if You don't like it

crop some from the sky, leave the chair,, it adds a spark of color and design to your shot. This is a great mood shoot. I fell it represents, calm, detachment, and isolation. excellant job.
SIMPLY CROPPING THE PHOTO TO FOCUS ON THE BEAUTIFUL SUBJECT MAKES IT A BETTER PHOTO.
I wouldnt crop this too tight. It needs to stay a "landscape" orientation. I agree that there is too much sky. But the water to the left side shouldnt be cropped out.
Interesting photo.
It could work as a modernist presentation, but I find the wide expanse of empty frame to be wasted space... There is simply nothing in the fram that makes me want to spend any time at all dwelling on the left side - therefore, it is not a balanced composition..
As I say, that is modernist vs. traditionalist and a matter of preference...
As to the tower... it's fine as it's a nice point of interest in an otherwise typical photo of a tree by water... :-)
Thanks everyone. I'll play around with some of those ideas.
Have a look at this and you can make changes as you wish.
Thanks. I was just playing around with that myself. I'm torn... I often use photoshop to tune things up, but I don't often remove elements of the shot. I do like how it looks though.

Every time I see a color fog shot I ask myself. What would that look like in black and white. I have two black and white foggers on my wall. I love the gloom and spooky feel you get from b&w fog.
Nice and thanks for posting.

Maybe, but now the rule of 3rds is gone. (Not that that's a good or bad thing, just an observation)
I personally like the distant feel in the uncropped pic.
There is software that I use with PS5. OnOne
