One of my all time favorite cameras is my first RAW shooter, the original Sony RX-100. Even the photography editor at the New York Times said it was revolutionary that Sony could get such good results from a small camera.

I'm not using it much now because I want 4K video capability. My wife has two travel cameras she doesn't like and is offering them to B&H. She's getting a fair offer for both and is buying a new travel camera. I suggested she throw in my old RX-100 to sweeten the deal.

The value estimate is only $30! I'm keeping it for a travel backup!

Yes it is... A student of mine wanted to upgrade from her a7Rii to the a7Riv. She wanted to trade the a7Rii in to better afford the a7Riv. Only to discover the trade in value was less than $400. I advised her to hang on to the a7Rii as a back up and low light camera since the a7Rii is better in low light vs the a7Riv. She decided to keep the a7Rii and buy the a7Riv outright. seems like only used cars have held value.... Leica is the exception

The "reality check" is that it is a great camera that take great images and it would be dumb to let it go!

Check the price on eBay to see real world value.

Hah!

The same happened with my old car... I still own it and drive it. Glad I didn't sell it

The following link will take you to what the RX100 is selling for on Ebay. Again, I caution folks here all the time to sell for YOURSELF. You will get MUCH MUCH MUCH more selling it your self.

This appears to be the MII version.

Don't give up! Below is a link to recent sales on eBay. Unfortunately, they throw all the RX100 models in together, so you have to look. A reseller has to figure possible repair and cleaning and how much demand there would be for an older camera.

A broken camera sold on eBay for $25.

I see MPB selling two RX100 originals for $200/239, I'd imagine they only offer less than $100 for any "buys", cause that's how it works. You can get a good idea of $$ range from Ebay...but you have to read the individual conditions of each sale to make any sense of what you see, and you will see every condition, from pristine to outright junk.

I scanned the list looking at the roman numeral behind the model. None have none. Mine is the original with no version number. Therefore it does not measure up higher prices.

It is actually a good thing because I like the idea of keeping it.

You're right.

My original version should have prices that are low enough that it makes sense to keep it. Any RX100, including the original, takes good images. It will have more value to me as a tiny travel backup camera than the cash. It takes only a few days of social security to generate what cash that little camera could provide.

I sold my original RX100 back in August with 3 batteries for about $170 on eBay. It was in pristine condition.
