With Yearround Daylight Time, children will walk to school in the dark in the Winter months.

Seems like kids who walk to school will do so in the dark either morning or afternoon. How many walk to school these days anyway?

Good points. Also, there is distance from the equator to factor. Southern states have more total daylight hours in winter than those in the far north.

Hmm, can't quite wrap my head around that display

I was simply comparing official sunrise/sunset times on December 21. On that date Seattle has 8 hours, 24 minutes of daylight, Los Angeles almost 10 hours. I didn't look at twilight.

I usually look to see where/when "The Edge of Night" is falling for various locations.
One can see that it gets darker sooner in Southeastern PA (where I live now) compared to Central Florida (where I used to live), in the Winter time.
As well as comparing other locations, and in the Summer as well.
(It's the engineer in me...... )

Oh, OK, I think I understand. btw, I went back and changed Yakima to Seattle (for more relevance to the three people who care). Their sunrise is later than you'd think (compared to Yakima) 'til you remember they are west of the Cascade Mountains

That brings up an interesting thought regarding the edge(es). I doubt they take into any consideration any "shadowing" a mountain range might have.

Stupid idea! They call it standard time for a reason because it's standard. If you want to go home early just go to work early. I work 6:00AM to 2:00PM.

So what is the reason to use daylight saving time except for going to work and leaving work early.
