Help with Canon Camera shutter delay
Sep 28, 2022 19:53:58   #

All of a sudden my Canon camera has developed a delay between when I press the shutter button and when it actually takes the photo.
Can you please tell me how to get it back to normal.
Thank you for your time.

When you posted this same question about 30 minutes earlier, people started to ask what camera? That would be a great question to respond to. You might also text-scan your PDF manual for the word 'timer' and see if you determine if you've set the self-timer to 2 or 10 seconds.

Hi Sally, is it the 80D? Click here for a pdf of the user manual. You don't say how long is the delay; could it be the self-timer? See page 140.

Sally, we need more information to be able to help find a reason for the delay and a solution.
Please tell us:
Model of the camera
The mode--manual, priority=AV, TV, Program
OR Auto "Green" mode. Focus priority?

What metering mode have you chosen? Center weight, Spot or --i forget the term, but whole frame?

What Focus mode is set? Regular or AI Servo for focus tracking?

With a properly configured camera, if it is a DSLR or Mirrorless, there should be NO delay. However, if your configuration, many times left to the default settings, will send the Camera and a wild goose chase between the time after you press the shutter button and when the shutter opens and closes.

When we know which camera you're dealing with, we can ask you to look for other settings and come up with a strategy. If all else fails, there's a reset, and you can start over. There are tutorials on YouTube that take you step my step on configuring your camera to suit how YOU want to use it.

All great suggestions. My vote is self timer. Look at the back display it's there

Drive button on camera top and turn thumbwheel to single shot or slow continuous. You have selected 2 second delay at some time and just want to put it back.

That's for a 6D mkII and possibly others.

Problem was solved in the earlier, duplicated posting of this question.

(It was the self timer, inadvertently left on. Still no idea what camera, though.)

Canon 80D. I made an educated guess by looking at a couple of Sally's previous topics. Here is her "duplicate" thread, with resolution: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-753311-1.html
