i have a 450d and am thinking of upgrading but am not sure whci way to go, i am considering the 7d, or 650d or the 60d i can just about get to the 7d with my budget, some of the prices ive looked at put the 7d £250 more expensive than the 60d is this justifeid?
i have only been able to view the 650d and i have to say i wasnt keen on the build quality it felt a bit like a toy but i did only hold it for a few minutes, if anyone has a 7d or a 60d i would appreciate their comments.
i cant see a huge difference in the specs of the 60d and the 650d apart from slightly higher fps and much higher iso in the 650d it also has the latest software, can someone explain why the 60d is in the enthusiast section of the canon comparison chart, i think i must have missed something because the spec of the 650d looks better to me a bit of guidance would be appreciated.
thanks
Bill

The 450d is a 12mp camera with a descent size sensor. It has dust reduction for the sensor, It sounds pretty good to me.
What doesn't it do that you would like it to do? What does it do that you don't like?
Have you considered upgrading your glass to 'L' grade. That would greatly improve image quality. Just some thoughts.
It sounds to me like you all ready don't like the 650 so I would stay away from that, so you're talking about the 7d or the 60d. Are you sure upgrading the body would be worth the expense?

thanks for the reply, i thought the 18mp would be better than what ive got, and im not ruling out the 650 because it has 18mp but also has a very high iso which i think i would like as i like to shoot without flash whenever possible. i see what you're saying tho and maybe a move to better glass is the way to go

The difference between 12 mp and 18 mp is significant only if you are going to make HUGE prints. A high ISO could also mean noise. I don't shot with a Canon, HA that sounds funny, I have a Panasonic, an old Panasonic with only 5 mp and I've made prints up to 11x14 without a problem. Be patient there are plenty of Canon shooters who will come around in a minute and will be more then willing to help. good luck and I hope you are satisfied no matter which direction to go.

I just clicked on the the advertismnent from Canon and they have a refurb 7d for 1280 body only.

Don't be afraid of used or refurbished AS LONG AS YOU STAY WITH A KNOWN COMPANY, B&H, AMAZON ETC. IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD OF IT STAY AWAY. They have gimicks like offering a 7d for $900 body only. But then charge for everything that is suppose to come with it in the box, like $50. for the manual, $20. for strap etc. etc. By the time you get your stuff it ends up being a whole lot more then what you could of purchased it from a good store. Another thought watch for return policy, most have a least fourteen days.
Just be patient and the Canon shooters will come out of hiding soon. :)

I considered both the 60D and the 7D before settling on the 60D. The dealbreaker: The 7D did not have the flip out LCD, which is extremely important to me and trumped any advantages such as build quality that the 7D offers.

Hi I reckon the 7d to be magic, had the 550d etc but this is the best easily and does well against the 5d mk11. You will need "L" series lenses to get the best but one at a time is the way to go, also PROCAMERA.CO.UK have a fantastic price AND service ( had it in three days) easily the best on the net.

The 7d does not have the flip out, but it does have a "live view", I don't use it often, but its nice to have it if I want to use it :-)

Bill,

You don't mention what you prefer to shoot. If it is nature, wildlife of any kind or sports then the 7D is the only way to go! You will find the 7D is a much heaver and sturder body than those you have mentioned. I bought a used 7D a few months back and love it, it is a fantastic camera. It has most features you would expect in a professional camera, it is considered a semi-professional camera. As has been mentioned don't be afraid of a used or rebuilt if you buy from a reputable company. You can't go wrong with the 7D.

Here is a review of the 7D.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos7d/30

At the bottom of the page you will find a chart to compare it with other models. At the top right of the graph click the "compare to" button to turn the comparison feature on. Don't forget to check the "include all catagories" box. It will not show all models if you don't.

I also have the 7D. I started with the 40D and when I was ready to upgrade I considered the 60D and the 7D and decided to go with the 7D. It is a fantastic camera and very fast which is important to me because I enjoy taking photos of wildlife especially birds in flight. My only complaint with the 7D is that it tends to produce a bit more noise at the higher ISOs and that is a problem for me only when doing night photography on a landscape scene.

Recently I was at a wildlife refuge just before dusk and came across a 6 point buck in this field of goldenrod... I had to bump my ISO up to about 2000 to get a shutter speed quick enough and was extremely pleased with the result. Because there was so much detail in the photo (very little sky), the noise was not noticeable. That same night just after sunset I saw a doe about 100 yrds away from me. I bumped the ISO up to 6400. I couldn't see the doe clearly to know whether or not my focusing was sharp. When I got the image up on my computer I was blown away. Not only was the image sharp and clear but there was a younger doe in the photo that I couldn't even see when I took the picture. There is more sky in this image and its a little noisy but not to an extent where it is distracting. The amazing thing about this is I was only able to achieve a shutter speed of 1/40 but I did have the camera mounted on a monopod for added stability. I don't have the images here with me at work but if you are interested I would be more than happy to post them later tonight when I get home.

I do have the photos I mentioned above and am posting them here. I hope this helps in your decision.

The first image was hand held and the 2nd image was with a monopod
