When I got a quote for my Canon 60D from MPB (U.K.) I told them it was an import (from the U.S. actually) and they said it isn't important to them.

The co. should know what they are selling that's there business, if you ask B&H they would tell you, your wrong this time.
I ignore stupid comments too.

Interested in a camera from them. Previously had good experience with them on lenses.
This time, on a Nikon camera, not so much. I asked them if the camera they were offering was a US or grey market, and they refused to answer. Gave me the S/N and said call Nikon. Right.
Others experience this with them?
(Hoping I got the staff nitwit).
If the s/n began with a 3 it was a US model.
It's a legal liability issue for them. They're not the final say on whether it is or is not. So they refer you to the manufacturer. How would you feel if they thought it is a US model and told you so, and after buying it, have some issue that requires Nikon service. And Nikon refused because it's grey market. This way you contact Nikon yourself, and make your buying decision off what Nikon tells you, if it's important to you.

I purchased an older model body from them and after a few months I noticed that one of the dials was almost impossible to turn. I sent it to them for repair. It took two weeks, but they determined that it was not repairable, and they replaced it. I had my choice of replacement bodies, and the one I got was in newer shape then the original one. So the OP does not have to concern himself with the issue, as long as the piece of equipment passes his needs within their 6 month time period, he is protected.

It isn't. You can look up Nikon serial numbers easily on the web and determine their country of origin.
Serial numbers beginning with:
2 - Japan
3 - USA
4 - Europe
5 - Canada
6 - Australia / New Zealand
7 - Asia (excluding Japan)
8 - UK
Apparently, there are a few reported variations on this list and there may be differences by model. I use this a reference...

I believe Nikon had some older models with the serial # starting with a 2.

You do not understand Nikon’s policy on grey market. They will not repair a grey market item. Ever.
Failure unlikely for years so warranty not the issue for me.

I don't know what else you expected? MPB is a very good source of used gear.
I expect a firm statement from them so if problems arrive in the future they must honor their claim. Irresponsible to not clarify what they are selling.
Won’t be buying used from them.
I’ll buy from more reputable sources; e.g. Adorama, B&H, or Nikon. The first two also require clarification on grey market items. Sometimes not up front.
Amused by the people that seem to be happy with a Yugo when they want a Cadillac…or that the buyer should have to check important features with another source.
