Ct . Bobcats have made a remarkable comeback considering we had a bounty on them until 1971. The last one legally killed was in Old Saybrook Ct., and I knew the man who killed it. The media heard about it and printed the story; there was such an outrage the state reclassafied and protected them. Today, we regularly see them in our neighborhood, but getting a fair photo can be difficult. This big (tom) Bobcat crossed my yard a couple of days ago; I can tell he is a male by the size about 20% bigger than the (queen) female also (trying not to be crude) his package! Bobcats are mainly carnivores and survive by hunting and eating small mammals, birds, insects, reptiles, and unattended small pets. They are not dangerous to people.

Nice work.

Wonderful animal too.

It may be the wrong thing to do? but I'd be encouraging its
presence with food.

About 10 years ago, a New Holland Honey Eater flew in to my garage
through the open door. I had never seen this species of bird before in
my area or anywhere else. Anyway It was getting close to night fall and
there was a storm brewing so I wanted the garage closed and secure.

I didnt want to trap the bird inside so I attempted to shoo it out
but it flew around within the garage and refused to leave.

So I put a bowl of water on the workbench and locked the garage up.

Next day after the storm had cleared I opened the doors of the garage;
the bird was in no hurry to leave but later that day I noticed It had gone,
but I saw it around the garden often soon after.

Now there's dozens of them around the house come spring and summer.
I like to think my hospitality has encouraged the cheeky little guys
into the area.

Here's a link to one of my countrymans posts featuring the species (a little larger than a common sparrow)
