It's not worth the long drive. At $0.10/mile, I have to consider the importance of a trip.

I assume that’s the cost of fuel. The real cost is higher, when including depreciation, maintenance, insurance, licensing……

Oh, please! I just got settled on the cost of gas per mile. I'm not going to figure the many other costs involved in owning and driving a car. The cost of gas tells me the immediate cost of driving somewhere, so it helps me decide if I want to drive there or not. Whenever possible, I do several errands in the same trip. It costs me about $3.40 just going into town and back, not counting driving from one store to another. I'm always amazed to see large SUVs idling in a parking lot. I pass a drive-up coffee shop on the way into town, and there is often a long line of idling cars waiting to pay $5.00 for a cup of coffee. We all make our choices.

This article tries to tie pronunciation to the way words are spelled. But we learn pronunciation before we learn to spell. We learn it from the people talking around us. Noah Webster tried to simplify spelling in American English to reflect how words are actually pronounced. Some of his suggestions gained common use. Others did not.

As an American, I was very puzzled by some pronunciations that defy the spellings of some words in the UK. For example, Leicester is pronounced Lester. The Fenwick department store in Newcastle is pronounced Fennick. Warwick and Keswick are pronounced Warrick and Kessick. So then you have to wonder if they were going to pronounce the words that way, why didn't they come up with better spellings so as not to confuse people who aren't locals.

Yeah, but that doesn't apply to me. I just figure how much the gas for a certain trip will cost. It can be surprising. Go to the supermarket? $0.90. Go into town? Minimum of $3.40.

What gets me is seeing someone sitting in a parking lot inside an idling SUV with the air conditioning on. And people complain about the price of gas.
