Sometimes Serendipity strikes unexpectedly.

1954 Ford Mainline V8 2 door hard top.

I did chat with the owner who was proud of his automobile. He stated that he always wanted to own one. Unfortunately, both he and I had to move along, so we just chatted briefly.

The color reminded me of the Falcons that were favored by the Mennonites. The black colors were similar.

Unless Ford did things differently back before the mid fifties that is a two door coupe, not a hardtop. “Hardtops” typically had no “B” pillar that separated the front and rear windows. I had a ‘53 4-door with the last of the flathead V-8 engines. Mine came equipped with cracks in the block from a couple of the exhaust valves to the cylinder walls. The used car folks nicely didn’t charge me extra for those. I bought K&W Block seal by the case and drove it for two years my senior year in HS and freshman year at university. That engine didn’t exactly make me a Ford fan.

That it is. I wish I could have taken more shots, especially the interior. But my wife and I were on a time schedule Saturday.

Earlier in the day I saw a Ford model A pick up turned hot rod. It was painted neon purple. I kidded the owner about her purple people popper. She and her friend both got a kick out of that name. Again, my time schedule got in my way. I did not get shots of her vehicle because she parked in between the other cars in line. And I did not feel I could do it justice. She did lament that she was getting only eight miles per gallon.

I used my "quick tab" for "not a convertible". The book I used was put together in the 1960s, thus I defer to those who can give me tighter information.

Looks like the bottom line trim model, nothing flashy -- just a basic car of that year.

Thanks.

I did a double take when I came out of the store. Usually I am more accustomed to seeing "buffed up" cars when they are of vintage. This one was in normal use. The owner took his young son on a ride to get fresh peaches and a cone of ice cream for his son. (I will have to start putting in "wiggle room" for the various opportunities.)

You could get a business coupe with or without a back seat. Probably no raido or heater in this one originally. More than likely not a Fordomatic. And a six cylinder. I had a V8 Fairlane two-door sedan with heater and push button radio. Love the mufflers. Boy would it scoot. My highschool car 1957-61.

My 1st car, but mine was light blue. Bought it in '64 while I was home on leave from the Marines and drove it back to Long Beach, Ca from Jennings, La.

Nice shot, that's the first time I've heard of a Ford Mainline in my 60 years. Thanks for your post.
