In need of a new computer desk chair for lower back pain issues..
Can some of the Hoggers please give some idea's or experiences you have had with an adequate desk chair that is helpful for those that have lower back issues? All good recommendations will be appreciated.
Racmanaz, I had similar problems starting last year after replacing my car. The old car had lumbar support, but not the new one. After several weeks I could hardly walk due to the back and leg pain...probably the sciatic nerve. After a couple of months with increasing pain, both while driving and while sitting at my desk, I wondered if the lack of lumbar support was the cause. First I rolled ups a beach towel and placed it behind my back at the desk and when driving. Within just a couple of days, the pain decreased noticeably. I went online and found some inexpensive lumbar supports with elastic straps that go around the driver's seat and the desk chair. I can easily place or adjust the supports where they give me the best support, and I've gotten pretty much complete relief from the back pain I was suffering. Maybe something like this would work for you. It cost me about $20. Hope you find relief. jak

Thank you for the response, Jak. I think you are correct on the lumbar support, if I didn't have such an old chair I would consider just the lumbar add on support. Glad t hear that it was worked for you and I am sure it would for me as well and will be purchasing a chair with that lumbar support.
I have an excellent desk chair, lumbar support, doesn't cut the leg in the wrong spot, but I'm a lunatic leftie, so I can't help you.

Anything that walks on two legs including me knows all about lower back issues -- Feel for you
Mine is made by Herman Miller -- Have had it for at least 10 years -- GREAT!!!
The chair is wonderful
I can relate totally and feel your pain. I'll be watching and checking out the suggestions.

I had tried many chairs when working in an office. The big ones with the high back were the worst. Virtually all chairs caused an increase in my back pain. I opted to use a regular secretaries chair after finding out it had an adjustable back support. That support could be raised or lowered. It immediately lessened any back pain and I used those chairs at every employer I had for years afterward.
Now, I use a similar chair at my home computer but have had to add a seat cushion to make it more comfortable to use. This chair has adjustable arm height which allows me to rest my elbows while typing.

I was having lower back pain while working at the VA clinic. Mostly sitting for 9+ hours daily was not a good thing.... My nurse called the Occupational Health office and they immediately delivered an "ergonomic" office chair. A hard mesh variety. Apparently many people had the same problem, and they didn't bat an eye at the request. If you have an Office Depot near you, maybe you can go in and try out various chairs. The new chair they provided me was very helpful. I realized that office chairs are a lot like shoes - almost anything will work, but if you spend a lot of time in them you need to pay more and get something with the right support! These chairs cost between $250 and 450 at Office Depot.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Every back is different, so one chair will not work for every bad back. The chair I'm using now - from Staples - is perfect for me. Before I got my Honda Fit, I had to use a back pillow in every car I drove. The Fit is perfect for my back - probably not perfect for yours.
Go to a store that sells chairs and try them out.

Order a Herman Miller chair. They’re fantastic! First sat in one at work in a boardroom in 1997 and immediately ordered one for my desk at home. They come in different sizes. Also, stay hydrated for sciatica and lower back pain (it does help)!
I bought a Steelcase Gesture office chair about a year ago and it is very comfortable with good lumbar support but pricey. Definitely try out a chair first - I am 6’2” and 200+ so my chair might not be your favorite.
