There's a scene in " Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" where Rachal Ward is going to pour Iodine on Steve Martins scraped knees that is hilarious.

My mom used Cornell’s Liniment. I believe it was basically crude oil. Interestingly, wounds that wouldn’t heal did after using the stuff.

Yes, I still have some and I still use it.....It works. It was a red badge of courage. I have been drinking water out of garden hoses for decades. Why, I even road in cars that did not have seat belts or air bags. Went fishing with real lead sinkers. I have even played with matches. Heavens to betsy we all lived through it.

And a little coal oil moistening a teaspoon of sugar! Maybe I won't live to 127 after all - I'm only at 94 now. Oh well, we all have to go sometime!

I might have been dead at age 14. Lots of mercurochrome in my family. I also ate black tar from the streets in the summer, played on the railroad tracks, chased the ice truck to steal a piece of ice in the summer and played many sports in the streets. Ah, the "good old days"!!

Funny how so many substances were approved for use only later to be found potentially harmful.

Merthiolate did sting because it contained alcohol and acetone.

When I was old enough to make my decisions, one was no one would ever use Merthiolate on me unless I was already dead and not even then if I could stop them.

Of course, I once got road rash on an area 6x8 inches and my wife poured Listeren on it, I nearly passed out.
