Ok; might seem a dumb question to some. But gotta ask. The z50 seems to be a good camera for the price. But have a couple of questions:
1. Can be bought with two dx lenses; 16-50 & 50-250 kit lenses. Does this mean they would have 35mm equivalent focal lengths of 1.5, a range of 24-375 between the two lenses & would work without the adapter?
2. Would it work with my current lenses (Nikkor 18-300 dx vr & Tamron 18-270 dx vr lenses with the Z adapter & give give you the same 1.5 crop factor)?

Info appreciated. —-Michael

I got my Z50 as a two lens kit. I use the 16-50 most of the time but it is an excellent camera and the kits lenses are good. You don't need the adapter as long as your are using Z lenses. The F mount lenses require the adapter.

Yes, yes and yes. Exactly as you describe.

Advice much appreciated. I have a number of Nikon DSLR’s with lenses I like, but, of course, can get a bit hefty sometimes, so thought the z50 would be a lighter walk-around set-up. Amazon had the z50 with the two kit lenses for just shy of $1k so might be able to talk wife into letting me get one. Sell my 5xxx series cameras & keep my d7000 & d7500 & p900. Thanks again. Can always expect good info from UHH members.

I've got a stable of "F" lenses that I use/used to use with my D200. A mix of Nikon, Sigma and other. Most work just fine with the Z50 and the FTZ. A few, including a Nikon or 2, operate but without auto focus. My Sigma 24-70mm EX had to be shipped back (to Sigma) for a firmware upgrade before it would work (which they did free of charge).

Whatdat; I also bought my Z50 and 2 lens kit. As already said, it's a great camera and both lenses are very nice. I purchased my kit directly from Nikon for $1299.00. That seems to be the going price. Be careful buying the kit from Amazon as some of their affiliates may NOT be authorized Nikon dealers. Amazon is great but i'd be suspicious if they were selling this kit for $200.00 less. Maybe grey market?

Perhaps you can look into this before pulling the plug.

Good luck, keep us posted

Thanks again for the answers to my questions. Will be studying various sources that are selling this package.

Yes, yes, and yes. My Z50 kit, with the lenses you mentioned, has become my travel companion. Read the Ken Rockwell and Thom Hogan reviews. Mine was a Nikon factory refurbished model for additional savings. Wish the body had IBIS, but maybe the next upgrade will include that. These two lenses do have VR.

A MUCH cheaper, lighter, and smaller approach would be to simply add a D3500 body for times when you want to go light. The D3500 body is lighter than the Z50, and doesn't require the additional weight and bulk (lens length) of the FTZ adapter to use your existing lenses. The cost of this approach is vastly less.

Of course, if you really want to play with mirrorless that's one thing, but if you're looking for a lighter, more compact rig, mirrorless with legacy glass ain't it.

A Dx lens on a Nikon Z camera would have to be used with the lens mount adapter. I would be wary of this seller, they are trying to lowball the price by not selling a Z mount lens with the Z camera.

The kit he is describing includes Nikon Z “DX” lenses, not “F” mount lenses requiring an FTZ adapter. The other lenses he mentions are non “Z” mount lenses and would require the adapter.

As RKL349 mentioned, consider a factory refurb as well. I was lucky when I purchased my Z50 kit that Nikon was selling the 2 lens kit for the same price as the refurb kit but i'm sure Nikon will repeat that sale again in the near future.

Thom Hogan is an excellent resource for all things Nikon especially his instruction manuals for recent cameras. I have purchased those from him several times over the years, well worth the $30.00 he charges. Just be aware they are in PDF form.

Gook luck

But only if that DX lens is an “F” mount lens. The Z lenses don’t require the adapter on the Z50.

It’s a great package and even though you own lenses that you could use with the adapter that covers that focal range it’s worth it to get the 2 lens kit. You’ll find them sharper and enjoy using them more.
