Me too.
There are also other possibilities. In WW2 Germany made petro products from coal, expensive and dirty burning etc.
I am sure modern science can figure out how to do it better if necessary.
And there is already bio based fuel, that tech should improve also.
They often include recycled cooking oil in the bio fuel. A piece I read when it was a new experiment quoted one long haul truck driver who was part of one test program (recycled French Fry oil from the McDonald's burger chain) who said they needed to refine and clean it better. It smelled like French Fries and made him hungry and he was gaining weight.

I hurt just thinking of it. Do you need a referral to some therapists? Mental and physical.

Regular in NC is about $4.19, premium is $4.94. No idea about diesel, but got to be tough on independent truckers. One thing for sure, if natural gas and gasoline stay this high, more and more consumers will be moving to heat pumps, electric cars and solar on their roof. Our natural gas heating bill was about 50% higher than last year. That makes me consider changing my A/C outside unit to a heat pump so I can choose the cheapest energy and considering a plug in hybrid.

We use a heat pump and propane set up as a dual fuel system. In Ohio it gets to cold at times for a heat pump to produce heat so the dual fuel system shuts the heat pump off and fires up the propane at 24 degrees outside. Most regular heat pump systems have what is called emergency heat which is electric coils similar to a toaster. The regular heat pump systems when the heat pump stops producing heat due to outside low temps it turns on the electric emergency heat and both run. Will blow your electric bill out of the water. With a dual fuel system it shuts down the heat pump and runs the other source of heat by itself. Great way to save money. I have had dual fuel in my last 3 homes. First one with electric emergency heat. It saved about half over a regular system when it was very Cold

I owned a house just at the south edge of the foothills of the San Gabriel mtns where the river comes out of San Gabriel Canyon in Azusa CA, NE of Los Angeles. High enough elevation the pools in the area would sometimes freeze over. When I had central air in the form of a heat pump installed the dealer who put it in recommended I keep the gas wall heaters just for nights/days like that and he was right. Several times each winter I turned off the heat side and left the fan on low for air circulation and turned the wall heaters on.
Also for my son's dog (Miniature Shepherd named Sniffy) I put a doggie door in the garage, built a dog house under the work bench with a small ceramic electric heater with thermostat mounted to blow into the dog house. And on those days I wasn't teaching or at night I would just bring Sniffy inside and she and the cats would curl up together on a rug in front of the fireplace in the family room while I read in front of a fire.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your comment and perspective. Like nurses, firefighters and law enforcement, we have a job to do and if you love your job and respect people you will usually be successful.

Tuesday 3-29 mid range in CA is now $6.11 9/10 according to AAA.
And that is the average for the whole state, some places it is more and over $7 at sites that have always had higher prices.
