Yes , exactly .
Cars seem to have lost the flair of design of the 60's / 50's / etc..

Cameras of the 70's were of of Icon quality ... OM1 . Nikon F , as well as
the Japanese Rangefinders of that era ..

Will a Panasonic / Lumix G8 be seen as a Classic in 40 years time ?
I doubt it .

Agreed, but the car problem arises from the desire (demand?) to be air-efficient streamlined. But I owned a Beseler Topcon and it was built like a tank...literally. Nikin F1, Canon AE-1...great pieces of technology that you could feel in the hands.

Ahhhh yes. The Beseler Topcon, with its distinctive slab sided prism and square edged body .....

Many of today’s car designs look like they were inspired by transformers toys

I thought they have a Nija look. Many front engine cars have faked rear grill.

I have four canon slrs and have no idea what dent youre referring to. The idea that its visually distinctive at distance is kinda weird.

I tend to agree that canon and nikon slrs look alike at a glance or at a distance, IOW no very distinctive visual separation of the brands. It's really quite obvious why nikon needs that red accent mark.

I'll tell ya what's kinda weird....the fact that you think Canon & Nikon DSLR's are simular! Look at the shutter button on the Canon then look at the shutter button on the Nikon!

Well, sorta! Mine was the Topcon B — before this one...1958. Semi-auto diaphragm! Had to manually crank it open after each exposure and it was tripped by an external arrangement that coupled the shutter release button with the diaphragm release. It looked "rube goldbergish" but I never had a failed image.

Also, somewhat unique was that the prism could be removed and one could look straight down onto the ground glass. Useful, I guess, for situations where the camera would be low and looking through the viewfinder in the usual manner would have been awkward.

And just WHO are you telling to look at WHAT ?!? Here ya go again since you missed it last time, the kissin cuzzins with no really distinctive visual difference ... "Look at the shutter button" ?!?!? Big deal. Nikon and Canon SLRs look alike.

These may not be NEW but there may qualify as some of the world's most ugly cameras. The more current black plastic Chinese-made model was voted the world's ugliest camera on Flicker.

Now that this is settled, perhaps we sho find out WHO is the world's ugliest Photograher, I might qualify!

Beauty is only skin deep, but then too, so is ugly.

On that basis I hereby nominate those infamous fraternal twins, the Northrups.

Couldn't find any information on a Sony with a swivel lens. To which Sony are you referring? I don't know anything about sensor technology, but from the information releases Sigma's Foveon X3 sensor project sounds interesting.

It's what you're used to. Hard to beat the design functionality of a Leica M, a Canon AE1 or an Olympus OM1. Yet, the new cameras have so much electronics jammed inside that has to affect the shape. Rather than be put off by the looks, grab one and see how the ergonomics feel. You might be surprised at how comfortable a camera can be. Buy one that can meet your needs, and if you don't like the way it looks - I understand pickleball and lawn darts are popular past times.
