Glacier is lottery as well as Yosemite. The last thing I would worry about is bears in Glacier. Bear management closes trails where bears are present, they remove problem bears. You will consider yourself a very lucky person if you see one of these magnificent creatures. I worked for the National park service for the summer between college and grad school. On the road every day all summer and saw a few but they were too far to photograph. The greater risk is climbing on bad rock. Traffic has been a problem since the 70’s. It may be my favorite place on earth, I’ve visited at least once a year do 70 years.

I have heard that Yosemite requires reservations in the summer. Actually have heard that about a couple of national parks so I would check with any park I plan on going to what requirements they may have in place. You can't go wrong in either park, I have been to both several times. Yes, Yosemite is very crowded in the summer but with some patience that can be managed. If you don't have kids I find that the crowds are at their worst when school is out. Going to the parks just outside the summer season helps, but depending on which you go to weather can then become a problem.

There is a lot of good advice here but before you decide, take a look at adding a side trip from Glacier National Park to Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada. It, like Glacier, is spectacular. It's about an 85 mile drive (2+30 hrs) from Glacier. We visited both Glacier and Waterton a couple of years ago and wouldn't hesitate to make a return trip. Good luck and be sure to let us know what you decide to do.

I will second that, if you have the time it is well worth the drive. Just be aware to get there you will drive into Canada. Crossing into another country takes a little extra planning. I have been there and highly recommend it too.

I was to Yosemite in late September (before the pandemic). I came in from the east so I saw upper Yosemite for two days. The afternoon I went up (on the first day) there was a long line getting in, but once in it was worth the wait. The second day we again entered from upper Yosemite and worked our way down to lower Yosemite. We were going to tour lower Yosemite but the crowds (and traffic) were overwhelming. Our grandson was waiting for us on the coast and we had to get moving to see him (hence only being Yosemite for two days).

Thankfully, we got the last room available in Lee Vining. We thought Lee Vining would have more motels and eating opportunities.

Having lived near Glacier for many years I can tell you that Going to the Sun is simply amazing. And keep in mind Banff is only 4 hours or awayso its pretty much a two for one trip

Depends on if you like to hike or not. Glacier is a much better hiking park. Both are crowded in the summer, but once you get a mile or so from trailheads people start to disappear in both parks. I prefer Glacier and it has the advantage of it's just a short distance to Waterton National Park in Canada.

The Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite lacks the iconic rock formations to the south, but has its own spectacular scenery add will be much less crowded than the Yosemite Valley.

We went to Yosemite at the beginning of March 2020 and had no crowds. You may risk snow still then, but that is a treat for photogs and they will keep at least one road into Yosemite open even in snow but may require tire chains.

As long as you dont go in the summer it is not too crowded. We did not need reservations to get in, but if you plan to stay inside the park overnight, yes get reservations.

The park is huge and there is much to see, do and photograph if you have the time.

Hi, I would suggest Bryce Canyon.
Given the post pandemic situation, expect crowds in ANY NP. this may require additional planning regarding all transportation. No one mentions this important fact.

I've been to all of them and agree with others who suggest Bryce and the other Utah parks. You won't be disappointed

I love them both; Yosemite - more so even though it is CROWDED in the summer months.

My favorite, however, is Bryce Canyon.
