My hubby and I used an app called Road Trippers on our cross-country trip a couple of years ago. We found lots of places that provided some very fun photo opportunities.

My wife and I are taking a road trip from Denver area to St. Augustine, Fla and on to Savannah, GA. She's flying home from there and I'm taking my time driving back. I would greatly appreciate some advice for photography stops on the way back home in Southern Georgia, Central Alabama, Central Mississippi and Central Arkansas. I'm primarily a landscape and wildlife photographer so recommendations for State Parks, Wildlife Reserves and other recommendations, etc. would be greatly appreciated in the next couple of days as we're leaving early Friday morning.

Thanks in advance to all,

Dennis

Cloudland Canyon in NE Georgia is sometimes called the Grand Canyon of Georgia. Very close to the south end of Smoky Mountains. The Highlands ares of western North Carolina has breath taking waterfalls and is accessible to the Blue Ridge Parkway into the Smokies.

Stay 100% off of freeways.
Take odd backroads.
There are hundreds of wonderful opportunities that you will find that are not the typical me too photos that are so cliche.
You would be amazed at the small communities, stop and ask for local places.
And just driving you will see wonderful opportunities.
Do NOT have a specific plan but just sort of head in the general direction you need to but do not be afraid to veer off if some road looks interesting.

Well, we took off on a nowhere, took us seven weeks and to discover we almost always took secondary roads and we had a van and photography was high on our list. We've done this several times, been into 40+States, met some fine people and also special places that we had never heard about...Interstates are great to get somewhere quickly but photography is limited...

Understood. I live in Texas. We can get in trouble later when we offer that as blanket advice to visitors, just because of distances involved. I thought perhaps there might be some other reason right now.

Very Near Savannah is Edisto Island, on the Island is Botany Bay Plantation that has the most unique dead trees seemingly growing out of the beach. Especially great at Sunrise.

I never noticed a problem in Texas with wandering around.
100 miles is 100 miles regardless.

Wandering works here also, but we have a lot of 100 mileses...so we just generally don't offer it as a blanket instruction.
