Genie, and other brands make a bulb that is specifically made for garage door openers. Side note...LEDs have a transformer in them since they run on DC.

Transformers do not convert AC to DC, what you really need is a rectifier. They also have a transformer to lower the voltage from 110 to probably 12 volts or less.

The opener incorporated in my mirror in my SUV used to trigger the door opener from almost a city block away (4 houses); suddenly, it would work from less than 2 houses. Obtained a small, handheld for my older car; it would only work from the end of my driveway (about 20 feet from garage to street).

I made one small change and now the SUV opener begins opening the garage door from 7 houses; the handheld opener starts the opener from 5 houses away.

I had replaced the lights on the motor in the garage with LED lightbulbs; situation resolved by replacing LED bulbs with non LED bulbs. Seems the LED bulbs emit an electrical interference that greatly reduces the remotes capability of communicating with the opener.

I've found that the placement of the short wire antenna that sticks out of the base of the unit is critical. It needs to be straight up and down. I use plain old 60-Watt fan bulbs in my opener. They take vibration well, and don't cause any interference.

Another place LEDs don't work well is around audio recording gear. They emit pretty strong electromagnetic interference. For that matter, so do computers. When recording digital audio, I keep my computer away from my A/D converter. I keep the cable at right angles to the computer as well.

Never thought about it, but I remember being told to not use led bulbs in the opener light. (it is the only light in my home that isn't led) So I believe that it does make a difference.

I recently replaced the light in my opener with an LED bulb (A15 size) made for a fan. It works fine and does not seem to affect the working range of the remote.
