I would bet when Nikon gets rid of the D6 inventory sitting around it will be listed as discontinued.
Z9 made sure of this.
Features and price.

The D6 is the only camera on the Nikon line up that is made in Japan now (I think the Df is already discontinued) and I don't think they make them any more.

With the high emphasis on video performance in a camera the demand appears to be very high.
If it gets used is irrelevant.
I will say about 90% of a current digital camera's features are never or almost never used even here in UHH land.

Using specifications that have nothing to do with how a product is to be used generally leads to wasteful and suboptimal choices. Chasing "video bloat" can lead to wasting a lot of money. Those interested in video should do a little reading about the physiology and psychology of the vision and perception of motion before spending a lot of money on high-resolution video equipment unless they just feel extremely charitable to the makers and sellers of such equipment.

This was an oversight on my part and not an intentional misquote. I apologize if it was misleading or confusing. Nonetheless, I do not think it significantly changed the meaning of his statement. His point was that he needed a system with at least a 1.5 crop factor for bird photography but that he felt that there were no crop sensor mirrorless cameras worth considering. I was just pointing out my own positive experience with my crop sensor mirrorless system. I am not a shill for Olympus and would also suggest Nikon's own DX mirrorless cameras and Fujifilm as "good" alternatives for crop sensor mirrorless cameras as well.

As I suggested, read it aloud (ok to hide away acoarst!) You are reading it as “the whole marketplace”. Restore the missing word and you’ll “hear” him lament that the *Nikon range* has no really desirable APSC SLR with the D500 gone. He wasn’t painting a broad picture of “the industry”, just lamenting that “his” chosen camera company chose to no longer cater to his biffing needs with a top tier APSC SLR.

This all may be leading to the top tier cropped sensor Z that Thom Hogan has been predicting. He called it the Z90.

All of the big camera manufacturers have figured out how to bundle high quality still and video imaging into one product. There is nothing wrong with this. It makes it simpler to satisfy the needs of those who want one or both. It virtually eliminates the need to buy a separate video recorder for high quality video. I don't see anything wrong with this. I started thinking about a video upgrade AFTER I bought my Nikon D850 whose autofocus in video is dismal. I've been using a small HD Sony camcorder for years, and it occurred to me AFTER I bought the D850 that it it is time to upgrade. The low light performance of that little camcorder is awful. So now I have to look at options. This isn't some esoteric feature of a camera that I won't ever use, and it will cost me some money. It's too late to pull the decision on the D850, and I'm not going to take a big hit of money by selling it.

You sound bitter.
Video is the future and if not embraced your product will become a small oddball nice piece of equipment.
The video is NOT for the next movie block buster. It is for You Tube, interminably boring vacation videos one suffers through or other video that are incredibly popular now.
Manufacturers are doing what consumers want. And video is what they want.
Very few still photos including nearly all of yours are world wide prize winners. Yet the rest of us mere mortals love taking photos for our pleasure and videos for the same reason.
Nothing more.

Perhaps so.
Then the argument will be between the ancient D500 hold outs and those embracing the amazing Z90 with better everything.
I am looking forward to seeing the Z90 and seeing what a crop pro camera is like.

I WAS POINTING OUT THAT NIKON DOES NOT MAKE A CROP MIRRORLESS CAMERA NEAR THE PERFORMANCE OF THE D500. I AM THING ABOUT MICRO 2/3'S BUT THE EVF LOOKS SMALL FOR TRACKING BIF AND FINDING SMALL BIRDS IN BUSHES. NIKON HAS COME OUT WITH A GOOD LOOKING 500MM WITH BUILT IN TELEPHOTO. WEIGHS OVER 6 POUNDS. IF I COULD PICK IT UP IT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST TO ME.

Z6II has higher resolution, 14 fps vs 10 for the D500 and excent AF.
Sounds like the Z6II runs circles around the D500.
And gets FF at that so if you want to crop you can.

That certainly needs to happen regardless of who does, or does not, prophesy about something which is already very obvious.

All true except for one catch. You get 20 megapixels with the D500. You get 10.3 megapixels if you crop to DX size with the Z6II.

Not bitter. And I make no claim to be a great photographer. I do not post what I consider to be my best photographs online anywhere. But I do see what I consider a lot of wasted energy here and find it pretty frustrating. As a result, most of my discussion is with my little group of four artists and teachers at school. They are a lot more fun and more helpful than most folks here and just nicer to be with.

I am gradually giving up on trying to help. Heads here are just too hard, and folks are just too set in their version of the lore.

Which Sony camera is the newest APS-C in E mount and when it was release? I didn't hear much about them lately.

They all would do what I want to do; whether I can see or not the results right away. I just pick whichever I fancy at the moment. Camera manufacturers love the masses because they know they can count on them to buy the latest and greatest.

Amen my friend. I don't believe that anyone could see a difference between a DSLR and a mirrorless properly exposed photograph.

Thanks - good to know I have a few more years - I really like my D500

No one can say when a particular camera will no longer be serviced......it all depends on parts availability. Enjoy your DSLR and ignore the hype surrounding these new mirrorless cameras. There will ALWAYS be those who can justify ANYTHING new.
