We will be heading to Kingman in January and will be going from Columbia Falls Mt to Kingman Az via I 15 thru MT to Pocatello ID then I-86 over to Twin Falls, then down Hwy 93. I am looking for things to stop and see once we cross from Mt into Idaho and on down. Already been to Vegas so no plans to stop there.

I am looking for off the beaten path type stuff that is not on the tourist sites. We will be taking the camper and the Ranger Polaris side-by-side...so any good places to stop and ride, ghost towns, interesting odd sites and stuff like that. We will not be staying in campgrounds but finding off the grid places to camp.

Can anyone give me some idea's to put on my list? Any good suggestions for camping?

Thanks Cindy

Grapevine Canyon in Nevada just west and a little north of Kingman. Loads of amazing petroglyths. Also Valley of Fire a little north and east of LV.

Next time consider coming thru Utah down Highway 89. It's very scenic.

Go down H95 from Reno NV to Las Vegas. Ghost towns and old mining towns along the way. In Beatty, NV there are free roaming burros in that town. I actually had to stop at a supercharger there and one of them came right up to us for food. These burros are so friendly.

It looks like you're planning to drive down NV-93 from Ely. I drove north up that road a couple of months ago. I found Ely to be a bit of an odd town and did not want to spend more time there than necessary. Best to fill your gas tank there. On the other hand, I stopped at Cathedral Gorge, near Panaca, and really enjoyed that. It's small, so it's manageable, and it is a very interesting state park. They also have a campground. Pioche, just north of there, is a cute town to drive through if you want to take a short detour and it has a restaurant or two on a long stretch with few services. There is a big gas station just south of Cathedral Gorge.

I agree with others who say to avoid the interstates and take Rt.89.
Secondary roads are always better than interstates.

I recommend these books.

If you just suffer going through Salt Lake, keep on I-15 and swing over to Springdale and Zion National Park and see us. Between I-15 and Springdale is an area where you can boondock or you could go out to Sand Hollow for some really good side by side areas. There are plenty of areas in Utah for off road experiences.

Twin Falls has some nice areas to photograph. You can take a road down to the Snake River and check out the bridge over the highway. It's the only bridge in the US where you can base jump all year. The flats in the gorge are beautiful with a golf course like no other on the north side of the river.

Thanks will look into that but will more than likely be staying away from the larger towns...will be pulling doubles with the camper and the side by side...sticking to less congested area's.
