Wow Sue - I lay awake nights thinking about exactly the same thing. I have never had the need for video, or the extra button and myriad menu items.

Ain't gonna happen in my shooting lifetime.

Nice to know I'm not the only one!

Mirrorless cameras are video cameras it just depends on what you do with the frames. But yes, I like them only for stills but may get into vlogging down the road, so the video capability works fine. On my D7200 I assigned the movie record button for ISO setting since I never shot video on a DSLR.

I hated the video function on my old d7500! It was a bear to get a proper focus and I had several videos (one from the top of Arthur's Seat - grrrrr!!) that quit recording after just a few seconds without me noticing. The mirrorless video function works better but since we now have a digital video camera there's no sense in using the mirrorless one.

But the question is do you hate it enough that you're willing to pay more to get rid of it? Many people think if the camera doesn't do video it would be cheaper but in today economy it's just not so. Making a camera without video is only slightly cheaper to make as compared to the one with video but you can sell a lot less of them so that the development cost, tooling cost won't be paid for so they are more expensive per unit.

No, I was just saying that it would be nice if there was a sills only option. I'm too invested in my Z6 and Z lenses to even consider such a move even if it was available.

All the hype! Am staying with my D850 which has barely 13k actuations. Last year around this time had a Z6 II here, sent it back to B&H without ever having turned it on. Am not convinced I need to go mirrorless in spite of so many snarky comments by certain UHH contributors.

I am also very happy with my D850 and wouldn't need anything else if I didn't shoot sports action. None the less, mirrorless is the future. No reason for you to navigate there if you don't want to.

The Z9 is an impressive machine suitable for pros & others who need all the super FPS and other high speed specs for their work. Wonder if Nikon will come up with a "Z8" type equivalent of the D850 with its plethora of quality features for hobbyists and enthusiasts who like using an equally impressive tool with pro grade lenses for their type of shooting, but at a more affordable price point.

Perhaps the Z7III, with the same specs as the Z9 but not the fps or AF speed. And yes no shutter.

Remember you can get a camera without video but you would have to pay more not less.

Not about the cost, more about being less confusing for my diminishing brain. Sort of like the shifting focus point.
Let me change the video/still button to locking that point!

Thanks for the reply.

Before leaving YM I asked Robbie if there was enough of a change, particularly in low light capability, to warrant upgrading from my Z6 to the Z6ii. He said no, then added I should wait until next spring. Could Nikon have a Z6iii/Z7iii in the works?
