If I understand correctly, at least in some circumstances smartphone geotagging works where NO satellites have line-of-sight but where there is some wifi or cell signal. That gives location indoors or near tall buildings, etc.
For example, the Nikon p900 has to have a signal from satellites. The Nikon P1000 can get it from a cell phone as well as from satellites.

I use two methods when I want to geo-tag images. If I'm using my Nikon digital cameras, I use a Nikon GP-1. If using a film camera, I make notes using a Garmin handheld unit.

I asked the question because I already have a GPS device connected to the camera; the location coordinates as well as altitude appear on exif information for that particular image. So again, is there a software available that can pinpoint the location a a map?

If you shoot Nikon Nikons image space will do it. You get free space just by registration of your camera

There are several programs available
out there that can do this. AutoCAD is one, expensive. I think there is a free version too that can be downloaded. The program has the maps already in it you link the photo or coordinates to it. Check with your nearby college software department.

Just looked at AutoCAD. It is expensive, $440/year subscription. You can get a 2 month subscription for about $67. Another site (probably the full version) wants $220/month, $1775/year. Other than reference to a free trial I did not see a free version online.

Compare that to Lightroom/Photoshop at $120/year subscription. I suspect a photographer will get much more use out of LR/PS than they would get from AutoCAD, which may work for images, but was designed for another field altogether.

Lightroom does it.
