Years ago, I bought some Xume magnet filter holders. I can pop a filter on or off very quickly. Manfrotto bought Xume, and they're basically no longer available. I don't understand that kind of business thinking. I'm surprised that other companies haven't introduced magnetic filter holders. I should have bought more when they were generally available and reasonably-priced. If you see them now, the prices are ridiculous.

Computer chips and magnets are not friendly. Maybe this not a factor, but anytime someone gets close to my computer or cameras I get nervous. Just a thought.

There’s no need to worry. I’m not aware the computer devices (chips) are affected by magnetic fields found in a normal environment (not inside an MRI machine!). Your HD could be affected by an extremely strong magnetic field, but again, not something you’d typically find short of lab. Remember that your HD (if you’re still using rotating media) has a motor with a magnetic field just mm away from the devices on the controller board and every electronic device with an internal power transformer has the same (non) issue.

I find this site reminds me of things I otherwise would never think of again. Years ago (decades?), you may remember they had boards which could double the size of disk drives. My dad bought one, which I got to increase the size of a drive by 70%, but device stated only part of drive was being used. I tracked down the owners (New company), they had bought out the original maker, but not the board I had. Told me they could not even talk to me about it, not their property. So original maker gone and no one who could do anything!!! Support did tell me that they did not know how I go the 70% increase as it should not have been possible to get the board to work at all.

I also know a company that bought out another instrument company with the idea of dropping the second companies instruments and selling theirs to the customers. Customers informed them that they would just as likely go elsewhere. They ended up supporting the second company instruments.

Yes, and I had one of those boards in an IBM XT. As you said, it would allow access to an area of the disk that was usually off limits. It wasn't "life changing."

Somewhat similar situation - A guy used to sell add-ons for side view mirrors (especially for motorcycles) that were curved in two directions so they gave a very good view. It was basically a one-man operation, but the guy who did the mirror bending for him stopped doing that for some reason. That was the end of his business.

I have several 72mm, I think. Or maybe 67mm.

Check this out Jerry
For a filter adapter, I have used DIY "Magnetic Sheets with Adhesive Backing"... Amazon $12 for 10 4x5 sheets

Go to Amazon and check and you will find a long list of the Xume adapters.

Contact 2filter.com. They sell Haida and Kase and could probably advise which might be compatible with Xume.

Good idea, but why "Xume"? Sounds like digging up a grave...

Thank goodness I have several sets. Works like a charm. While others are fiddling with their filters I’m shooting. Never had an issue. Sad that they are no longer available.

The problem with the Kase is they are not compatible. I too have Xumes for a bunch of glass, and like the efficientcy of the design to switch out filters and all, but when I searched for a 67MM filter holder to use with a newly purchased lens discovered A-Xumes were apparently no longer made and there were none available in that size and B-Kase is not compatible.

Yes, you read that right - it would seem Kase mounted the magnets in their rings such that the poles were opposite of how the XUmes were set up - you can see how the lens cover I bought (the filter rings did the same thing)would not seat onto the Xume lens adapter but instead hovered over it.

So, be warned.
