Unfortunately sometimes you get what you pay for and with your wife's binoculars it seems to be the case. Your Nikon's seem to do the job, as do my Steiner's and Manglesphoto's Bushnell's. It really seems to be causing you quite a bit of angst; trash the inferior binoculars, share the Nikons, or buy another quality set. Good luck - and relax, its just a thing, in the greater scheme its not important.

We go to Rockport at least once a year for several days. Really like it; Charlotte Plummer’s has great seafood & best bread pudding I have ever tasted. Anyway looking for great sunset location. Any suggestions?

We have a new seafood restaurant by the name of Pier 77 that has amazing seafood, though lacks the waterfront. I usually view the sunset off the back of my boat, and the sunrises off the front on the jetty at the beach. Sun rises there are really amazing. As for sunsets, my closest friend here has a 250' private pier on Water Street in the historic section that would give you the open water sunsets - where mine are over the marina. I would be happy to make either available to you for your picture taking. Don't hesitate to let me know if I can be of assistance. Tdearing@me.com

if it can be turned on my binoculars it has been and nothing helps. I have ascertained that it is only at the infinity position, when the focus adjustment is all the way in, so I have worked out that by machining very small amounts from 3 positions I should be able to make the focus wheel adjust very slightly inward more and hopefully allow focus at infinity. Basically bad design/manufacturing if indeed this works. Otherwise they are history.

How did you get on with your binoculars? Last week I took my Pentax binoculars apart to clean them, after 35 years, and discovered what may have been your problem. Incorrect assembly of the focusing screw. On reassembly I had to position the focusing part just right as I started the screw to get the correct travel on the adjuster. Just wondering. I'm happy to help further if you need. I'm in Timaru.
