I gave up storing my raw files (and in fact all my other images: jpg, png, psd, etc.) on my hard drive maybe a decade ago. They are stored on an external hard drive which is dedicated to photos. That drive is included in my backup process. Large external drives are readily available at reasonable prices.

If you are happy using your jpgs alone, I cannot complain. It is your choice. If you do not see enough advantage in using the raw file I will probably not be able to convince you. I personally prefer to do everything from the raw file. A jpg, to me, is an image display format, not an image storage format. I am not alone in my opinion, nor are you. My above response is merely to offer you an alternative solution to a crowded hard drive.
