In re: problem #1: Try File -> Open Recent
This will give you a list of your recent files. The list is configurable in Preferences -> File Handling and at the very bottom you can change the number (cf the attached image).

Thanks, Bob. Yes, I get a list of recent file names, which is a little better than the nothing I'm getting, but its really not a substitute for the 35 most recent thumbnails I used to get.

Photoshop has an option under the View menu to proof colors. You can set that up so that you're proofing to the sRGB color space. Keep PS's working space ProPhoto and keep the original PSD file as you want it. Before saving a JPEG make a duplicate of the PSD file and then activate the proofing function. Best you're going to do then is make adjustments while being able to view the proof output and get the JPEG as close as you can to what you want. sRGB is a good thing in that it allows us to do the best possible job of universally sharing pics with each other. It is however a compromise as most good things are.

Thanks, Ysarex. I tried that, and the results are VERY discouraging, with much much worse color renditions than when I just used ProPhoto and exported to sRGB! Not your fault, of course; Adobe writes the bloody code! I guess I'll just have to steer clear of shooting very saturated greens that dominate the image, or reserve them for printing rather than flickr. I've long known that life is full of compromises, but this one hurts worse than usual, as I rather live on flickr. We don't have any wall space left to hang prints, and I'm not much interested in marketing them. Anyway, thanks for all of your illuminating assistance.

Thanks, Edith. However, when I follow your instructions, it seems I'm converting to Adobe RGB. I don't understand why I want to do that. Please explain.
