Up untill the last 12 years (about) whether you voted democrat or republican didn't make a very big difference. Both sides valued American democracy. The differences may have been important but whoever won wanted democratic principals to endure. But things have changed. Both sides, republicans or democrats are very different. Republicans want American style democratic government priciples to endure. Democrats want a "fundamental change (their words)".They are doing this by slowly teaching our children, by cancel culture, CRT, teaching White supremacy, by teaching that white children are surpressing people of color, that they are evil because of their skin color. Indoctrinating our most vulnerable to believe that the US is an evil country. And that the only way to end this oppression is by adopting "democratic Socialism" This phase of the slow progression of indoctrination happens as those kids get older. Democratic socialism is American Communism. Biden bending to the pressure of the more radical wing of the democratic party. Sanders and the "squad" and others are dictating policy. anders calls himself a "Democratic socialist" but he is an open supporter of Marxist teachings. This slow progression is a long ago (early 1900's) plan to turn this country into a Marxist utopia. It is reaching a turning point. If this process continues American freedom will end. It must be stopped, and very soon, or it may be the end of the American experiment. Maybe this is overstating things but the underlying concepts are accurate. I hope I am wrong. but I just might be right.

I do have issues with some of what Lincoln did, by todays standards I am not sure whether he could be considered a democrat or a republican, Lincoln wanted to expand taxation to expand waterways that primarily would have benefited trade in the industrialized north, I am not going to say that the Civil War was not about slavery, because that was the primary dissatisfaction the south had with the federal government, but the taxing policies on their agrarian economy to support factories in the North was not insignificant.

So Thom, his hunger for taxation to pay for his goals of expansion certainly would lean to the side of your party, and history suggests that promoting individual rights including those of black people is more of a republican thing.

I always find it entertaining that the right wing fascists think their best defense for destroying Democracy is to attempt to say Progressives are the ones doing all the stuff the white supremacist right wingers are doing.
Any right winger who denies their supremacist side should read some of the stuff I read earlier. Some of them seem to believe the enslaved should have thanked white people for the great opportunity slavery gave them. Yeah, right. I see how that has worked out for so many of them. Great opportunities, what a favor was done for them by enslaving them. We should all be proud of ourselves for the kindness and magnanimity they were shown.
