I know that mirrorless is the future but I don't really see the big advantage. Lighter & smaller is not a big incentive to go mirrorless. When shooting sporting events, in burst mode, I often produce 2,500 - 3,000 images during a softball, baseball or volleyball game. I have never needed more than 2 batteries and usually only use 1 per session. With a mirrorless, I would need 5-10 batteries. I hope that this rumor is not true because I was thinking of buying a Canon 90D because it's about $1,000 less than the Canon D5 Mark IV. I think that camera manufacturers are promoting mirrorless because they are more profitable, not better than DSLR. Your thoughts are welcomed.

I hope you realize you are comparing crop sensor vs full vs mirrorless full?

There is a myth IMO that mirrorless is lighter. The bodies are smaller and a bit lighter but lenses are not necessarily. If you have a collection of EF mount glass and you are satisfied with them, they will work as well if not better than on your 5d Mark IV. You will get faster fps, superior sensors and better firmware and in camera features. The R6 has essentially the same sensor as the DX1 mark 3 with high frame rates. It is true that the batteries for some reason do not last as long, however you can get up to 510 shots per battery.

Good points. Especially this one: "Maybe somebody will tell us why mirrorless is so wonderful."

I agree that the mirrorless camera does not take a jump forward like going from the film era to the digital era.

BTW: Nobody mentions that Canon DSLRs have a mirror lockup function that in effect matches the mirrorless camera. Using this function does require extra effort, though.

Meanwhile, the camera-makers have mounted a big sell-job for the mirrorless camera. It represents an advance in technology. If I were starting out, I'd go for mirrorless over the DSLR. But I have invested in the DSLR, and with it I do photography that satisfies my quest for a worthy photograph.

Well maybe when my 5Dc gives up the ghost but so far it does everything I've asked of it. I don't
print much and when I do, it's 8x10 or thereabouts so 12mp is enough. Maybe somebody will tell us why mirrorless is so wonderful. How much better will my pics be? 100%? Or is there some other advantage that I don't know about, like saving time and work or $$ by not having to develop film? When I was shooting Tri-X, my home had really bad water so I had to take my film to a shop to get it developed. OTOH, my digital darkroom worked just fine under those conditions. Will mirrorless give me a similar jump or will it just murder my occasional GAS attack? You know, the always lurking desire to spend. Thanks, Harry
